You could always try to Cel-'er-on eBay?
There must be a demand. As a matter of interest I could do with one right now to run some ancient diagnostic software for my even more ancient but functional BMW. A dedicated machine is preferable and XP is the best platform.

I've looked a little bit for charities but they seem to want newer kit unfortunately.

You'd be surprised at what people buy on ebay. Your windows7 one will upgrade to windows10 for free and may be usable with a £20 SSD.
If you put your general location in your Profile, somebody here may be able to come and help you.

I may consider that but with tonnes to do towards a move I'm not sure I'd have the time for a few quid

You could try installing the Chrome operating system on the old laptop. Needs very little processing power to run it and it would wipe your hard drive in the process.

I have an old laptop (Win 7) that has a dodgy HD. Any chance I could use Neverware's CloudReady Chromium OS on a USB stick to let me clone the HD (if it still works) before replacing it with a SSD? https://www.cnet.com/how-to/how-to-turn-your-old-slow-laptop-into-an-awesome-chromebook-for-your-kids/

    Hi
As I understand it, Window for WorkGroups 3.11 is still running on an orbiter around Mars, after 18 years and numerous solar storms, so you actually have some really ace kit to pass on.
    Hope the recipient appreciates it.
