Also talk to your bank and ask them to instigate a search for the money - you would think they would check the holding account automatically when there is a query like this, but in one case I was involved in they didn't - but found it immediately when firmly asked to look!
But a banker, engaged at enormous expense,
Had the whole of their cash in his care.

It is nothing to do with the OPs bank.  It is lost between the Solicitor and the Mortgage Co.

I was able to talk to my solicitor today . She said the problem was an incorrect reference. She said it will be sorted by tomorrow. She blames it on their bank though instead of a clerical error.
I am hoping I will get a full refund of the additional mortgage payment that was collected from my account yesterday.

Hmmmm... So the solicitor's accounts person typed in the correct reference - but the bank's system decided to change the reference to an incorrect one?

But if you're being refunded the extra interest you paid as a result, I guess it doesn't really matter whose fault it was.

  • Never understood the issue with just admitting a fault.  Mistakes happen, if people admitted them more often it would be easier for everyone to figure out how to fix things.  'Someone keyed the wrong reference, sorry but we will fix it so you are not out of pocket'.  Simples
We see it all the time on the mortgage board with 'the lender hasnt picked up the documents for 2 weeks'. Well the lender is currently working 3 days for documents so someone is telling porkies.
