Skipton building society application

Hi
We have applied with a broker to skipton building society for our mortgage. We are self employed and we got our aip online and then with the broker full application went in on Friday. How have people found them? We were also thinking about barclays but our broker called skipton and advised we go with them in the end. Can't find much online about their mortgage reviews. Has anyone any recent experience with them.
Thanks

@unicorn2809 Well, I can definitely back up your broker in that Skipton is likely to be a better bet than Barclays for underwriting a self-employed application.

Thanks that is good to know. This is our first time applying as self employed. Last time we got a mortgage 13 years ago we were both employed.0

If the choice is Skipton or Barclays, it is an easy decision - Skipton all day long.
Just to expand on how easy that decision is.... If the choice was Barclays or putting rusty needles in my eyes, it would still be a really easy decision - rusty needles all day long.I am a Mortgage AdviserYou should note that this site doesn't check my status as a mortgage adviser, so you need to take my word for it. I have recently applied with skipton bs, i just recieved my offer today after the survey was done.
Although we both are employed it was very straightforward, didn't request any further documents or anything,
Im really pleased with them and hope you have a good and quick experience with them too
All the best0 -
Hi Incognito- when you say you applied recently, how long did it take please? And was that direct or via a broker? They received our direct application on 28th, credit checks done same day but now in a queue for the underwriter. On the phone their adviser said four to six weeks! 😫 Really hoping they under-promise and over-deliver.I’m stressing about possible undervaluation and the mortgage term stretching into partner’s retirement. But the application is in, nothing to do but wait.We looked at Barclays. Very glad I didn’t go with them after reading this thread! 😆0

Oh wow sounds like we made the right choice!! Just a waiting game now for us . Thank you and great that you got your offer. Hope it doesn't take too long for us. Our broker told us it would prob take 12 days max but did say that they were pretty busy. Our application went in Friday and the hard searches on file appeared right away we are in Scotland so already have home report. Hoping it won't be 4-6 weeks!0

There was a delay with the valuation as the vendor wasn't available til the 1st June but the case was underwritten 2 weeks after I applied they wer waiting for the valuation to issue the offer.
Please dont stress everything will be fine, they are actually a very good lender with underwriters who use common sense also one of the first lender to return to the 95% ltv market
Hopefully you hear something back soon0 -
I was actually worried about undervaluation too but today i was told that it was exactly the amount that i agreed with the vendor.1

@Unicorn2809 Our application was underwritten in two weeks there was just the delay with the survey.
Hopefully you get a quick turnaround.0 -
Thanks Incognito that’s good to know. Glad it all worked out for you! Fingers crossed Unicorn and I will be saying the same soon. 🤞0
