O/S Daily Tuesday 1 June 2021
This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning
Morning everyone
Hugs to those that want/need them, those who are poorly and those who are looking after a poorly person x
Happy birthday to those with a birthday x
Clear sky, sun shining, warm start to the day.
DH up and gone to work stupid stupid early, I'm showered dressed and enjoying my first cuppa and my porridge whilst on here. DS1 getting ready for work. DS2 settled and happy.
Lunch yesterday was bbq and we had family round, all went ok, and everyone seemed to enjoy it. Dinner tonight will be LO's.
Back to work today - it'll be busy because of the holiday day yesterday, we always have a busy Tuesday after a Bank holiday - we've only been shut for 1 day too!
Keep safe and well x

Good morning, and thanks for starting NMLC. A busy day makes the time go faster! It's a sunny start here, yesterday was nice, but it was chilly last night. We weren't out at all, well, DH went over to the caravan, but I was busy at home.I rearranged the position of some of the outdoor pots in the back yard, and today I would like to get a bag of compost and re pot one or two of them. I also cleaned some kitchen cupboards and drawers, how do they get crumbs in them, they aren't left open. It's one of the mysteries of life.Hope everyone had a good day yesterday, I'm glad you enjoyed visiting relatives Camelot, it makes a nice break, getting away from home sometimes.I expect Gers will be busy sorting through her Dm's flat, it's a sad job but has to be done.Thinking of our poorly people, and those struggling with life. Take care folks14

Morning All
Bright and warm again this morning - I could get used to this! Washing about to go on the line then I'll hop in the shower before work, last 4 weeks for us so it'll be busy on the run up to the holidays.
I had a quiet day yesterday, enjoyed seeing the lovely Gers who called in for a quick chat. I did some shopping first thing and watered the allotment, the rest of the day was spent pottering about and reading outside.
Lovely to hear of so many people having days out and meeting up with relatives and friends, hope we can continue to do so.
Have a good day everyone, take care. XX14 -
Morning folks and thanks NMLC. I hope today isn't too busy for you.
Another beautiful start and set to reach 23 deg at it's height. Similar yesterday after the early cloud lifted. I finally got the geraniums potted up and then DS came to trim the front hedge. It hadn't got too bad but it looks better for a trim. I was the sweeper upper as usual. We then sat out in the back garden with an ice cream and I got up to date with his news. When he left I stayed out and made inroads into the book I had just started.
I have an early grocery delivery this morning. There's quite a lot of frozen food (and fresh food to go in the freezer) on my order to fill all the gaps that have appeared in both freezers and a stock up of fish was needed too. They gave me a code for £8 off my next order so I thought it would be rude not to take advantage of it! An early email tells me all is p & c - no subs and nothing missing. That must be a first!
Once that lot is put away then the day is mine. I'll potter on with a few jobs this morning and then sit out in the sunshine with my book. I noticed yesterday that all the pots were looking a bit dry so they will get a water when the sun goes down.
Have a good day folks if you can and ((HUGS)) for all who need them. MADDIE I hope your hospital visit goes well and GERS try and make a bit of me time amongst the arduous task of clearing mum's flat. Take care one and all xx"If you dream alone it will remain just a dream. But if we all dream together it will become reality"13 -
Morning all, another early bird here as I'm back to sleeping badly or rather not sleeping again. We put the big fan on in the bedroom last night hoping for a cooler night but my mind was running amok and I couldn't make out if I was hot or cold. Anyway we have a busy few days so I must try to look like I'm awake !Lunch with the family yesterday was fabulous and we toasted all the birthday's, Easter and the Christmas that we missed last year. It's my birthday on Friday and we're having a party, hopefully we will be able celebrate everyone's birthday this year. The DGC are staying overnight with us after the party, can't remember the last time that happened but we're looking forward to it.Mr Fix It has his oncology injection this morning so I'll go along for a ride and have a look at some different scenery when we take the car for a run straight after. This afternoon I need to do an online shop and Dad has given me his list, it's as long as your arm ! I am hoping to finish off cleaning the patio today too and there's a wash waiting to go on, I may need to have a nana nap at some time, perhaps I can have a snooze in the garden.Tomorrow we have to be up early again to get to Mr Fix It's face to face oncology appointment. We need to leave ourselves plenty of time as it's is in the big hospital and we have to travel into the city through the morning rush hour.Gers I'm glad you got home for a while. I hope sorting your Mum's stuff goes well for you, there will be lots of different emotions going through your mind I'm sure. Lots of love and hugs for you.Take care allnan xxFailure is simply the opportunity to begin again, but this time more intelligently13

Morning folks.I was back in the thick of clearing out by 6.00a.m. this morning, it's on my mind so much. It's possible that I have reached the end of the mountain of papers, there are some lovely things in there which have been interesting to read and scan. My DM seemed to attract weird stuff happening to her, she so loved wrangling with such events to sort them out and then spend years recounting them to her family and friends. Think of a female Peter Ustinov - without the facial hair! This morning I checked my bank accounts and found three instances of fraudulent spending on one, all for Deliveroo starting on 27 May and the final one still pending. I've cancelled the debit card online and will do a report when that office opens at 8.00a.m. It's just annoying as I think the card has been intercepted in the post.Apart from that my day will be spent doing the final check on papers and then finishing off DM's clothes - just one set of drawers to go - before bringing out all the painting materials, of which they are many many, to give them to her art group. My moment of joy this morning was a text from a gardener local to me agreeing to take on the wilderness of my garden to tame it. She lives only about three miles from me across the canal bridge so no long journey. I'm so delighted that she'll be able to bring the garden back to what it was before I left.A moment of joy over the weekend at home was the smell of wild garlic in the air, just beautiful. The woods are filled with these tiny white flowers which also look fabulous, but that smell just makes me happy. My thoughts are with the poorlies - I hope that life improves. Happy Tuesday to all.UPDATE - just spoken to an agent at my bank, she's satisfied that the debit card has been used without my authorisation so has refunded me the three transactions. That was quick and easy. Thanks TSB.13

Morning everyone
Another lovely sunny start here too. I spent much of yesterday outside alternating between gardening and reading. After tea I watered everything then sat reading until the sun disappeared round the corner about 8pm.
This morning I'm planning on going for coffee with mam and dad and then perhaps making a start on the front grass - it looks awful! Then I'm getting my hair cut after lunch and might have a look round the charity shops if they aren't too busy. Little one is coming for tea and a sleepover and I will have her for the day tomorrow - give DD a break.
Gers it's good that you have your mum's art group to donate her art supplies to - I'm sure they'll be happy to have them and think of her when they use them.
Well, I'm going to move and get washed up ad hoovered. Hope everyone has a good day12 -
Morning all.
Gers, there must be a certain sense of satisfaction in finishing the sorting out and disposing of each category of stuff as it occurs. This is where all that clearing up you have already been doing pays off.
I feel a bit like you just now. I am sort of looking after a 94 year old friend whose wife has just been taken into a home. I may have posted about this before, I think I have lost the plot. Anyway, I spent yesterday morning trying to sort out their sitting room where I don't think anything has been thrown away or moved for a few years. It's exhausting, isn't it?
Scarlet, I know just what you mean about crumbs in drawers. Peas under the cooker used to puzzle me. I now have an eye-level cooker and a counter top hob so the peas have migrated to under the fridge.
Long pause for a phone conversation. Probably another half a dozen people have posted in that time.
The good weather has encouraged me to wash everything in sight, so today I will start the ironing marathon.
I hope everyone has a chance to enjoy the sun while it is still with us.
I believe that friends are quiet angels

Have trouble remembering how to fly.13 -
Morning all, sun is shining, the garden is calling. Potting up tomatoes to their final place today and doing the seedling shuffle. I found having two, well, really three things to go to really took it out of me so yesterday I just chilled and watched a lot of old Floyd on Italy, laughing at the funny looks the crowds gathered round him gave him, it's funny to look at it now after twenty years when it was all new and exciting to be cooking outside in thunderstorms or in markets and now it's quite commonplace. I might start on the Spain ones next thanks to youtube.snoozer, what a bunch of pigs. A similar thing happened when my parents let out my grans old house. She also, besides smashing everything and stealing anything that wasn't nailed down, locked two cats in there when she left on her night flit, owing six months rent, so they contributed to the trashing too. They never let it again after that. I hope the negative reviews means they don't get ot do that to anyone else. Nanny, your birthday is the same day as my fathers was. Hope you get on OK tomorrow and navigate the rabbit warren hospital. Gers, good luck, some peole do things immediately, some people wait, it's what's best for you now. My grans old clothes are still in the attic of my sisters house because my parents didn't want to get rid of them. Good to hear your bank is on the ball too. Scarlet it's one of the mysteries of life, like when you open a drawer and can't because there's a fork sticking the wrong way. According to Terry Prathett, Anoia is the god of things getting stuck in drawers so that probably covers crumbs too. Right, I'm off to ray it up in the garden with my sunnies and sun cream, have a relaxing day if you can all....Non me fac calcitrare tuum culi13

Morning, hugs if you need one.
A lovely sunny day yesterday, warm in the sun, we both woke up a bit peally wally, DB more than me. I was cross because he has been spending too much time in the garden, then he wonders why he feel out of sorts. We were also out in hot sun at the garden on Sunday afternoon.
Gers, pleased to hear you arrived back in Glasgow ok, sorting out your Mums things are sure to stir up lots of memories.
So yesterday was a quiet day. I elected for a quick supper, egg, chips and beans with strawberries and ice cream. Pleased to report we are better this morning, I guess the bust garden week was telling us we need to garden in small doses.
Pork casserole tonight probably with rice, or new spuds, and calabrese There are a couple of trifles in the fridge they will do for dessert.8 -
Morning all
Bright and sunny here another lovely day in store, I have a wash on the go and another one to go in after both should dry well on the line.
We had a bit of a disaster yesterday, we went round to mums to fix a pin board thing to her wall in her sewing room, OH was drilling into the wall and drilled through a pipewhich sputred all over the pair of us soaking us fron head to foot, we managed to stop the water and cleaned it all up but left her with no heating or hot water so we have called a plumber out today to try and fix it, I felt so bad for causing such a fuss but these things do happen, so our relaxed evening bbq whilst sipping wine in the garden did not happen
as we were so late back so we just put a quick dinner together which we ate outside but it was not the same !
Onto today I have the dentist this morning so need to jump in the shower after this and then home for a dog walk and then round to mums again to meet with the new gardener to get him to quote for sorting out her garden. I think I am going to suggest to mum that she gets a handy man in for all the little jobs that need doing, we are trying to do them as well as our house and upkeep and its getting a bit too much, I am also going round once a week to mow her lawns and there are always lots of jobs to be done and when I am back at work I just wont have the time, she needs a man that can !!
Not sure about dinner but will look in the freezer after this.
Gers I am so glad you managed to get home, good luck with the sorting out, I am sure it will bring up all kinds of emotions xxx
Have good days all xx10
