Will a TP-Link router work with Sky Q TV Box?

Hi, thanks for trying to help with this one.

I've just got the Sky Q Hub and one Sky Q TV Box, and what I want to do is use a TP-Link router instead of the Sky Q Hub. I've done with with Virgin and it's been fine.

What I'm hearing is that if I do that, the Sky Q TV Box will freeze. So the internet and wifi will be fine, but the TV won't be.

Has anyone had experience of this? And importantly, do you have a working solution where you're using an aftermarket router and it's working with your Sky Q TV box? I'm thinking that maybe turning the WiFi off of the Sky Q TV Box and ether netting into the TP-Link may work?

Thanks

It might be useful if you cite the exact model number of your TP-Link router

Thanks Rezzonto - it was more of a hypothetical as I haven't bought it yet, purely based on seeing issues with connecting aftermarket routers to Sky Q TV Box.

But for argument's sake, I'd be looking at the VR2800 or the AC2100.

    Thank you - appreciate it.

I've never had any problem connecting my Sky Q box to a third party router over WiFi.

Thank you - just to clarify, when you say connecting your 'Sky Q box' that's your TV box right? It hasn't frozen the TV or anything? If so, can I ask what third party router you use?

Technically, the Sky Q box doesn’t need an internet connection to work;  however, you will not be able to download content unless there is access to the internet.  To transmit TV from the main Sky Q box to any Sky mini boxes, the system can use its own wifi Mesh or each box can be connected to your home router/network. I use a hybrid system. My two mini boxes are connected to wifi repeaters via a wired LAN connection on each repeater. It works well for me.

    My router is a Fritz!Box.

    It's a TP-Link ARCHER-C7 v4 running DD-WRT firmware if that matters.

I've never had an issue at all with the Sky Q box (yes, the TV one) and honestly was a bit surprised reading this thread and seeing there were issues with third-party routers.
