Paint suggestion for old and worn Kitchen Laminate Worktops?

I've recently given my kitchen a re-do, some nice white emulsion everywhere plus dark grey paint for the cabinats and drawers. Some plain circular door knobs for the knobs and some grey vinyl replacing the old stuff.

So given the colour theme I'm looking at giving new life to the kitchen worktops, something that would last 2 years until we tear it all down for the extension. However I cannot seem to find a good one colour solution. I doubt gloss, emulsion or anything like that would work. Are there any single colour options which arten't too expensive (<£40)?

Amazon has this kind of stuff, but I think that's too fiddly and time consuming and I really would prefer a single colour.

I think you are being over-optimistic. You might be better off giving the laminate a good buffing up.   That's assuming it is laminate. You didn't mention what the worktops are made of. :)

No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?
  • I'm having issues with my camera, so had to google something which is similar.

In terms of prices, it looks like it's not an expensive worktop anyway and so expecting to be able to paint it cheaply is not too far off either.

You'd have to prepare the laminate by sanding it, then use a special primer for laminate. I suggest looking on the Zinsser website to see what they recommend for this. You could use most of your £40 budget on that.

I'm not sure what to use for the top coat, so it doesn't scratch too easily? I've used two part varnish. Can you get two part paint?

    Thanks for the reply.

I did a search for two part paints and the result was epoxy? Youtube videos seems to give positive reviews to epoxy.

If you look at the reviews, it seems you may be able to get a single colour by just using the dark grey first coat & then the varnish coating.
