This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Morning folks. It's bright and sunny here this morning. Bodes well for the day.Yesterday I began clearing out my own cupboards, it's ironic that I had so much put of date food here too. 😀 I ran the washing machine and dish washer empty at hot temperatures. Later I ventured into town to re-familiarise myself with it, it's changed a lot both for bad (my bank branch has closed) and for good with new shops and great improvements to pavements and street furniture. There were loads of tourists too.In the evening a friend plus dog dropped in for a wee catch up. I drove her home as we talked so long, she lives about 1.5 miles away and was walking.Today I'll do a white wash, both sets of bed linen need to be changed. Then I hope to drive up to Oban and then visit friends on the way back. It's very strange, no noisy gulls here right by the sea, unlike in Glasgow, the noisiest birds are the swallows which are twittering away. 😄
I'll look out for Nelski's spa opening. My thoughts with poorlies. I hope that some time in the sun can help. Happy Sunday to all.14 -
Hi Gers,
I'm glad you managed to get away to recharge your batteries.
We had a day of it yesterday, with a phone call from the bloke who does the cleaning and linen changeover at the Yorkshire house to say that the last "guests" had trashed the house. It had vomit and dog s**t on bedding and carpets and had been left in a terrible state. Two of the duvets needed to be binned and a couple of towels, they'd also broken one of the Ercol dining chairs. The cleaner has taken away all the other bedding to be examined and hopefully salvaged. We decided to shoot up there to make sure they hadn't taken or broken anything. They had taken all the household consumables we had in a locked cupboard (the cleaners put out replacements for guests who were arriving), toilet rolls, dishwasher tablets, w-up liquid, dishcloths etc plus several new tea-towels. Luckily that seemed to be it as far as thefts went. We got there at 2.30 (with new guests due at 4.00) but by that time the cleaners had done a sterling job, the house was clean with new bedding and towels out. The bloke next door had cleaned up the dog s**t and fag ends from the back yard (which had just been pressure washed and was looking pristine a month ago). There was still a stain on one of the carpets which the cleaner hadn't realised was bleach cleanable so I got that off, how glad are we that we purposely went for the bleach cleanable ones. We left after being in the house 75 minutes and came home. It was a long way to go with Bank Holiday traffic on the way up but we're glad we did it, we'd have been worrying about the place if not. The cleaner (who has his own business cleaning holiday lets like ours) says it's the worst he's ever seen, how can people do that? We gave Mr next-door a good bottle of whisky for his pains, luckily they hadn't discovered that locked cupboard with the booze in, we thought they might have from all the reports of vomit on the beds, obviously they were bringing their own in. This was a couple with a young son son by the way, not a group of teenagers - probably the worst thing was that spent matches were found in one of the bedrooms with a scorch mark on a table lampshade so it looks like the boy may have been playing with matches.
Sorry for the long screed but I needed to get that off my chest. Hopefully today will be a better day, I intend to do the cleaning I was going to do yesterday. Steve has an optician's appointment because the surgeon said he could replace his glasses now if he wanted to try to improve his vision some more. That was his last follow-up visit thankfully. Laura and Brian are coming tonight for a couple of days and then going up to the Yorkshire house, we shall send them up with replacements for all the consumables that were taken. Hopefully we will be able to get the money back from the people, we shall see.13 -
What a horrible experience snoozer, it's just mindless behaviour which beggars belief. Can you do anything about them? Report theft to police? And criminal damage? It leaves a nasty taste. Thank goodness for great neighbours and changeover agent.14

Morning folks and thanks GERS for starting us off. You sound to be making a grand job of recharging your batteries. You have certainly earned your trip home again.
I am enjoying peace and quiet here with all 3 girlies still in bed. But now that they are getting older they are no bother compared to what it was like when they were younger! I couldn't cope with life as it was back then when eldest was a Whirling Dervish and the younger two, born so close together, were both in nappies at the same time for a while! I was a frazzled wreck by the time DD finished work and came to collect them!
I think they are here for lunch (if so it's pizzas and wedges) and then going down home. They are all off to the "new" static tomorrow for the rest of the week. Up to now they have been sorting out and refurbing the decking, shed and outside area each w/end they have been there so this should be a more relaxing break for them all. With lovely weather forecast too as a bonus!
Have a good day folks if you can and ((HUGS)) for all our poorly, poorly loved ones, and those with worries and woes! Take care one and all xx
Sorry SNOOZER I was cross posting. That is unbelievable, how can people behave like that in someone else's property and just what are their own homes like! Is there no way you can claim compensation?"If you dream alone it will remain just a dream. But if we all dream together it will become reality"14 -
Gers, we thought about that but tbh we don't think the police would be bothered (the person who deals with the admin has tried reporting similar things with no luck), the monetary value of the things stolen and ruined is fairly low, they obviously knew that they wouldn't get away with taking something like the TV for instance.15

Morning all.
Gers, it must be strange going back home after so long away. Glad that you have recharged your batteries and you really needed a break from Glascow and its memories. You will be able to face the final hurdle with new energy, hopefully.
Snoozer. What can I say? Just when you think that you have plumbed the depths of human depravity and disgusting behaviour, along comes someone to teach you that there is still a way to go. The nastier side of me hopes that one day someone will return the compliment and destroy something that they hold dear. Then the complaints will flow!
It looks as though summer has arrived at last. It can't last, can it? I'm getting towels out on the line this morning, just in case.I believe that friends are quiet angels

Good morning and thank you for starting the thread Gers. Nice to know you are in your own home and recharging your batteries.
Snoozer what an awful way to behave, karma will get them at some point.
I did a load of bedding yesterday morning, totally forgetting that our neighbours were having a barbecue so I left it in the machine and gave it a quick re wash this morning, it is on the line now. They use wood so less smelly than charcoal but I still don't want to sleep in bonfirey bedding.
Nothing interesting on my horizon, hope you all have a good day.I was jumping to conclusions and one of them jumped back15 -

Morning all, what a lovely day.Gers glad you are finding solace in your own peaceful surroundings. It's not surprising there is o of d food there, you've hardly spent any time there over the last few years. We had a busy day yesterday, 8.30 k.off for watching DGS footie, then quickly back home as the conifer trees were being chopped at the back (
! ) so we wanted to make sure the back gate onto the path was secure for DDog. We have light now !! - what a difference. The treemen I would say have reduced them by half. That spurred DH on to clean the conservatory type roof in the kitchen /dining room, & it's so nice to see blue sky instead of darkness. The woman next door to conifer woman nabbed the men and got them to do some for her too, not conifers but a very overgrown garden, the previous owner was 90 odd & hadn't done anything for years.
We called on our friends to pick up sthg DH had lent them that DS2 needed, and sat in their garden for a bit, haven't seen them since last summer, although we speak a couple of times a week. Then over to DS to drop said item off there, and played football with DGS. Once home we sat out at the back to eat & had some prosecco to toast the light garden. Sadly followed a very noisy night as the newish people at the end seemed to be hosting a hen party, lots of screeching going on.Snoozer, I'm just appalled at the way your cottage has been treated. I really do despair at some people's behaviour, it's a good job your cleaning people were on the ball.Right off to read the Sunday paper, enjoy the sunshine x:heartsmil 'A woman is like a teabag: You never know her strength until you drop her in hot water'.
