Cancelled car insurance policy help

Good Evening all, I feel very upset and distraught at myself for what seems a very silly mistake has given me now maybe a lifetime issue. The problem was trying to take a new policy for a new car so my son can drive. I have 10 years on current car but when was going through sites to find insurance for this I mistakenly when asked how many no clams discount as a driver I put my details in (I honestly didn’t know you could only have for 1 car as thought as about me) so started a policy then had a email a few days later asking for proof so I sent it off without thinking it would be an issue, then had an email back saying they will cancel the policy as used on another vehicle unless can show another no claims. I called them up and explained what I did by mistake and can I amend the policy, I was told it’s best to cancel the policy myself there and then and then get a new quote. So I did and when called back up later with a quote reference was then told I was told miss information. I then thought this company rude on the phone etc so went with another company and not making same mistake. My son just passed his test on Wednesday so called the insurance company but it spiked to over 5k as he’s 18 and only just passed, so not being able to afford that I cancelled the policy and looked for an alternative. Everything was ok then 2 days later taking it out had an email to say it’s going to be cancelled as Freud, so I rang them and they said it’s going to be cancelled and what I send will be irrelevant and that’s basically it. Now I’m panicking on so many levels, as does that mean my son who’s only just passed his test as a named driver will he be tarnished with this forever also or will it just be me the policy holder? Do I need to inform the insurance company who I am with, for my other car which now has 11 years no claim? Will I have to pay for years to come high insurance for something I did not intentionally do? I have never felt like I have let my family down as much as now as can’t sleep with worry I’ve ruined everyone’s lives with a genuine mistake.
If anyone can offer any advice I will be so grateful

Ok, that was a hard read and its not 100% clear what's happened.
The first company allowed you to cancel the policy so thats not an issue; only an insurer cancelled policy needs to be declared. Who was the insurer and did you buy direct or via a broker or comparison site? Most websites do say that NCD can only cover one vehicle but there are some that don't and you can have a stronger complaint against those.
It is unclear why the third (I think) company decided to cancel for Fraud/Freud? My guess would be that they are claiming you are fronting the policy, putting yourself as the policyholder and main driver when in reality its your son that has only just passed their test?
Cancellations for non-disclosure, fraud etc only impact the policyholder and so your son will be fine. You will need to tell ALL your existing insurers no later than at renewal of the cancellation and this will make getting car, home, travel etc insurance much more difficult and expensive to get.1 -
Thank you for comments and firstly so good to know that my son won’t be affected.
on the first policy I got it from Debenhams but it may have been on there and it’s just I was unsure of the question as everything has made me doubt what I’m doing.
on the 1st insurance it seems I thought they allowed me to cancel but the one I got with more than on Wednesday on the phone said it was dating back to October when I cancelled Debenhams so they must of still put me down as cancelled from there side.My son is going to uni in September so the car will be staying at home then so I will be using it more so didn’t think that would of been an issue but i think I have been extremely naive to it all, just wish just called up for quotes from the start and not use sites.
my other car renewal is not until April and house insurance in March or I need to tell them before this one expires on Thursday?0 -
Just an update I have gone back to Debenhams with an email for clarification as I believed they let me cancel, I also emailed the current company with explaining further with a screen shot where Debenhams say your insurance is cancelled and next paragraph we would love to have you back one day. What hurts me the most is that after the issue with cancelling I thought it was all resolved so when I was making this new application I was answering honestly as I thought I was.0

If you son is to be the main driver of the car. Then the insurance should be in his name. Insurers are going to be assuming you baulked at the cost then attempted to obtain cover in your name. From the activity you undertook.0

Thanks for the feedback and reading back from the start can see I’ve not made it sound very clear. The car has become my run around car as the wife now uses the other mostly so my son will use it also when home from uni, but majority of the time it will be used by me. The one thing I certainly have learnt is if unsure best to call as I believed I answered honestly but here I am0

Is your wife named as the main driver on your other policy?0

Still not really clear. We can tell you are stressed but it would make it easier if you explained what policies were taken out, when and with who as the main driver and who as named driver.
