Decided not to claim

  • Why are you still considering paying anything? Its gone through insurance and thats the end of it. You do NOT have to pay anything to this woman. Have no more communication.

Hans, I was thinking, if I paid privately, it wouldn't show as a claim on my renewal, I was confused thinking it would show as a notification, clearly, form your and other postings, initially, I misunderstood how insurance works

I had 2 accidents in the last 8 years, first one, similar to yours, guy refused to settle without insurance involved and I wasn't convincing him (old focus, I hit open door from the inside, possible write off). And I'm glad I wasn't wasting my time fixing his car. My insurer had to pay in the region of 1200-1500, my premiums went from 400 to 650 for like 2 years and then went back down. Second - young guy hit my drivers door, begged me not to claim as first year a driver, I agreed, asked for 1k, he paid, I gave him written confirmation that all is settled and that was it. In your case, because you contacted your company you will pay more on renewal as a result regardless if she claims, you are more prone to accidents now and they know it. Don't pay her anything, not your problem anymore.

If you have already spoken to your insurers it's too late. It will be recorded. Pay her nothing.

What's the question you get asked when you get a quote?

If you ask a meerkat, it's...
"Have you had any motor accidents, claims or losses in the past 5 years, no matter who was at fault or if a claim was made?"
    ...with further explanation of...
    "
It is really important to tell us about any claims (including unsettled claims), accidents or losses that are motor vehicle related."
Other insurers may vary the wording slightly, but they will want to know the exact same thing.

So there's no denying this has actually happened, given that it's been notified to the insurance industry.
