This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning

Good morning, it's a foggy start here today, I'm sure it will improve though.Gers, I hope the funeral went smoothly yesterday, and that you've gone home for the weekend, it'll do you good..Yesterday was an ok day, we went to DD's with her birthday presenrt and were there for a couple of hours chatting, it was nice. That was it I think, I put my washing in and got it out on the line before we went out, the rest of the day was spent just pottering really. There's nothing major on the agenda today either, unless we are able to visit Ds and family, we'll see.Dumpling you did well going out yesterday,Thinking of our poorly people today, hope Steve's eye will be ok Snoozer.Take care folks.15

Morning folks and thanks SCARLET. Are we all ready for the heatwave?! It's beautiful this morning and forecast to remain with us for quite some time! GERS I do hope you managed to get away to your own home and enjoy this lovely weather.
I am making my usual flying Saturday morning visit into town. Just odd bits needed then straight back. For the first time in almost 15 months I have the 3 DGDs sleeping tonight! No prizes for guessing what has been requested for tea! I shall get on with that when I get back from town.
I didn't get on with my potting on after all yesterday. A phone call from a British Gas engineer put paid to that. "Just a courtesy call to let you know I will be with you in about 15 minutes" Why? I knew nothing about it! Apparently my annual service was due and I should have got an e-mail. I hadn't but I said it was ok anyway! I wished I hadn't as I got a worse prognosis than usual! Not only is the boiler living on borrowed time (they have been saying that for about 6 years!) but the pipework is now looking "poorly" too and I should really have it replaced. He is putting it in his report and no doubt someone will be in touch about it. I had better start tightening my belt methinks. There's always something.
Have a good day folks if you can and ((HUGS)) for all our poorlies and poorly loved ones. Well done DUMPLING, maybe the lovely weather might encourage you to go out again? Take care one and all xx"If you dream alone it will remain just a dream. But if we all dream together it will become reality"13 -
Morning all
Thanks for the thread Scarlet and hugs to all those in need.
Travelling Abuela British Gas are renowned for telling people their boilers and pipework are failing, it's a marketing ploy!
We had a long day yesterday, we moved our boat, went back for our car, then helped our friends move their boat it was 8:30 by the time we finished and we've still got to get their car today. I
Have a good day everyone.
Hugs HesterChin up, Titus out.13 -
Morning folks. Thanks for starting us off Scarlett. Thanks so much for taking a few moments to toast my beloved mother yesterday. Her faithful companion came dressed in his funeral suit as he felt it appropriate, he's very old fashioned and 'correct'. I was touched by it. We sat and chatted about Ursula for about an hour. The book of her life has closed though her legacy lives on.I really appreciate all the huge amount of support and love which has flooded my way, especially during these past terrible three weeks. ❤️❤️Yes, I drove back up to my home yesterday afternoon. The cottage smells very musty. I opened front and back doors for a while to get some air through it. Once that became too cold I lit the wood burner. I've got tons of wood though it's burning very quickly as it's over-dry. It was very bittersweet being here, sitting by my stove drinking wine and watching the tide turn again after so long. There were geese flying past and swallows dancing in the dusk, all the things I've missed the past three years whilst looking after Mum in Glasgow. Still, no regrets or complaints as it was time well spent. The garden is in need of some serious attention. It's not as bad as I had envisaged, mostly overgrown with a lot of large weeds. Surprisingly the clematis is in bloom on the back wall whilst the climbing hydrangea on the kitchen wall has grown enormous. It was a real joy to see that the old bluebell wood right by my place was in full bloom still.I have so much to do here but it's mostly going to have to wait a wee while more. Getting affairs sorted in Glasgow has to take priority- after this weekend!
Today its dull outside, sunshine promised for tomorrow. My thoughts to all our poorlies.Dumpling - how exciting! Well done you. 🎉🎉
Happy Saturday to all.13 -

Morning all.
Gers, I didn't raise a glass yesterday but I did put on some lovely music and light a candle. Fortunately the sun was not shining at the time, so I could see the candle glow. I remembered everything you had said about your Mum's life. It was really well lived. It will be a while before your home actually feels like home, but it will happen quickly once you are there permanently.
TA, goodness, 3 DGDs and a Bolognese Bake. Normality with a vengeance.
Scarlet, nothing much happening here either. Am doing a load of washing which should dry on the line. I've run out of things to wash! It's such a joy seeing it blowing on the line in the sun.
Then there's just the ironing. Yes, I'm old-fashioned enough to iron. Nothing to beat putting on a nice ceaseless shirt or slipping between freshly ironed sheets.

Morning all I haven't been posting for a few days as DS needed my laptop at the big house for a new job interview so i only had my phone so i read along as typing took forever.
Ok so catch up time in the nomad Bella house the surveyor came a few weeks ago and valued our house at £0 due to 2 extensions one at the front done before we moved there 30 years ago and the conservatory at the back was the old brick shed we used the existing outer walls as the utility room and added a bit on the side this fell under permitted development .Luckily i found the paperwork from our original survey which showed planning consent for the front extension and explained that the small addition on the back was not plumbed into the main heating and there was a door between the house and thus not a habitable dwelling but this was not enough and he would not budge, then we were told all surveys are recorded on a register so even if the buyers went elsewhere it would be flagged up, we gave everyone till 3rd June to sort this but honestly we thought we would have to rent it out so all very stressful .Yesterday our July holiday was cancelled and I could have cried but my luck must have been on the turn as the estate agent called just after 4pm and said the couple now have a full mortgage offer as the surveyor has done a complete u turn which they have never known before so the holiday fell through for a reason of that I am sure as now i have plenty to be getting on with, oh and probate what a saga thankfully the other executor is our retired solicitor so he is doing this for me my parents at the time tried to ensure i would be free of IHT unfortunately the law changed in 2017 and I will now have a tax bill my dad will be turning in his grave 40% tax on monies they have already paid tax on he always said they were thieves still it is what it is and they tried to do the right thing but no-one can see into the future.
Gers I raised a cuppa to Ursula yesterday and thought of you and your mums friend I hope you have a peaceful weekend and some quiet me time.
Hugs to all the poorlies and those who are looking after them .
Thank you all for reading along sorry it was a long one but it was 4 days worth . Have a great day whatever you are up to stay safe xSlava Ukraini11 -

Lovely bright day here wm is going its dance and the washing can go on the line I got two loads dry yesterday. The log man is coming this morning we may not need logs now till autumn but I do like to have a load in ready and in case of cold evenings, I will get some sausages on after this as I usually give him a sausage or bacon sandwich, he gives us a great load of logs quite cheap so the sandwich is a thank you to him.
Gers I am so pleased you managed to get home for a few days, you will soon lick the place back into shape, and how lovely of your mums companion to wear a suit bless him, enjoy your weekend xx
Will do a bit of housework this morning and then get the pup out for a nice walk somewhere dd and big pup are due home today but I think it will be late afternoon / evening.
Pizza and salad for dinner and maybe a trip to the pub for a swift half
I spoke with the lovely Nels yesterday and she is hoping to get the spa open this weekend weather permitting, I have lined OH up for the bbq and maybe nan can be persuaded to do her stuff on the decks ? see you all there !
Have good days all xxx11 -
Good morning! Actually, it's just morning, no promised sunshine here and didn't get round to doing the washing because it kept raining intermittently yesterday after ten o clock and if there is going to be sunshine over the next few days, I ain't puttin on no stinkin tumble dryer....Busy today, garden party this afternoon and a meal out, neither of which I am looking forward to because I'm a contrary so and so and don't want to mix with people any more. Nelski regaled me with the delights of Costco yesterday and being extra contrary, that's one place I DO want to take a trip to...I'll have to see about fitting one in the week after next. I am under instruction not to blame her if I spend hundreds of pounds there. I'll take the OH if I can, he's a good spend-reiner-inner....So the day is probably going to be wasted away by me watching the internet until it's time to leave. The second event is straight after the first so it's going to be a long day. I find myself knackered after only one appointment a week these days. Anyway..Gers, glad you got to go home again for a bit. TA, enjoy making the bog bake...and the grandchildren back again
Hester, hope you get to relax today! Ruby, perhaps you can 'forget' something your OH wants you to do
OK bella...and breaaatthhheee....
monna be careful, someone might infer from your post you may actually [shudder] like ironing...Right, I am away to inspect the weather for the slightest bit of sun and put the washing on if there is...Stay cosy!

Morning, hugs if you need one.
Gers, I am so pleased you decided to give yourself a break and have gone home to your cottage. The 'musty smell' will soon go with doors and windows being opened, shame about the wood though. We both sat with a mug of coffee and drank a toast to both you and your Mother. Sorting out will take time, be sure to give yourself breaks.
So yesterday was a busy day, the gardener was here, he has planted up the pots as I requested and also put some plants in the garden itself, I had 2 lupins and 2 delphiniums which needed to go in. We still have some plants which are not big enough to go in.
DB tells me we had some rain overnight, typical after I had watered the whole garden. Have an azalea which needs potted up into a slightly bigger pot , I potted on the two Acers.
We are off shortly to the garden centre to take the hanging baskets to be planted up, we also need another couple of bags of compost.
No idea whats for supper tonight.......maybe a ding dinner from the freezer.9
