Paid in a cheque but it doesn't show up?

Hello
Im writing this on behalf of someone who hasn't got access to this forum. They paid in a cheque this morning using the self service machines. They entered their account details and inserted the cheque. No receipt was given but then apparently last time they did this it didn't give a receipt either. This was done at 9 am on a Friday and until now (almost midnight) there isn't even a sign of the cheque in the pending section. He is worried about this. Does anyone know if that's normal? It's quite late now so calling isn't an option. Thank you

Banks now scan cheques. Cheques paid in will show up in the account on the second working day at any point up to midnight. At the point they show they are cleared funds. So much quicker overall clearing process than it used to be. Just no indication that its in the account before that cleared funds point.0

>>>If you pay in a cheque before 16:00 on a weekday (Monday to Friday, except bank holidays), it'll clear by 23:59 the next weekday. You'll see it on your account almost instantly, but the money won't be available until the cheque has cleared and the money appears in your available balance.<<<Hope2019 said:Hello

But given the current situation it might not show till tuesday. In other words. Looks like no one checked the cheque machine...Life in the slow lane0 -
At Barclays, you usually get a receipt with an image of the cheque. But I can't remember for the life of me whether you have ask for that or not. I pay in the very few cheques I receive through the banking app, and they credit within minutes.I came into this world with nothing and I've got most of it left.0

Barclays self service machines still don’t process the paying in of cheques at the point of depositing them in the machine. Every few hours and at the end of the day, they empty the machines and then process them “out the back” and I believe that is the point when you should see the cheque deposit as an uncleared payment into the account.Hope2019 said:

There would still be an audit trail of the cheque deposit at the machine despite them being processed again out the back.0 -
I usally get a receipt of the scanned image when using barclays or Natwest, but now i do it via the app, as its easier and faster than going to the bank.0
