Learner car insurance (Sterling Insurance)

Daughter took out leaner driving insurance, passed test 5 months later, policy void, cancelled policy and told to pay £175 as we owe them money...... what a scam company....... they say it is all in the small print....... £477 for 12 months cover and now paid £477 for 5 months cover as they added on cancellation fees £45, even though the policy is void....... AVOID THIS COMPANY.
This is wrong, they advertise on their website, Learner car insurance, pay monthly for one, three or six months, whatever it takes. But what they don’t tell you anywhere on the website, when purchasing the policy that you will have to pay for 12 months, even if cancelled after 4 or 5 months. They get round this and send a pdf after payment was made. This is wrong and is scamming the youngsters..........

The policy is a 1 year policy with finance taken for it to be paid monthly.  You would have paid less if you paid it in one go due to the interest, but regardless if it it was monthly or yearly, you would have to pay the policy amount for the annual policy.

The cancellation was initiated by the customer and  usually they state the cancellation policy, which is usually no refund, pro rata refund and/or admin charges

Did daughter read the Terms and conditions, or the one who paid for the policy read the T+c. Is suspect neither has been done, T+C are there for a reason to protect both consumer and insurer. If you do not read it, then who is to blame? Expensive lesson to ensure T+C are read carefully. 

If at any time you are unhappy write a letter of complaint and if your not happy  with this or no response after 8 weeks, write a letter to the ombudsman
