Opening FirstDirect Account

Hi all,
Decided to open a FirstDirect account and completed the application last night. Just received a text from them to say that it’s taking longer than usual to process applications which is completely understandable.

Has anyone recently opened an account and if so can they confirm how long it took from application to opening?

You'll get some paperwork to sign in a few days. Sit tight. :)

Can take a week or two to get fully up and running.

completely understandable? Provided they will accept you as a customer, modern banks open your account at the end of your online application dialogue and send you you card and PIN within 2-3 working days.

Just to note they are extremely picky on their application criteria, even when applying for an account without requesting an overdraft limit.

If you get declined I wouldn't take it personally, I've been trying for years before I finally got accepted back in 2019.

Their parent HSBC tends to be less picky on current account and credit card applications, but very picky on overdrafts and loans.
