Harlow may not be a most desirable area, but your budget and preferences would suggest that the Harlow area might be a good compromise. This house has three bedrooms, is 0.7 miles away from Harlow Town Station, streetview shows it looking not run down and Harlow is a diverse place to live. It is also not too far from the much more expensive Broxbourne and Bishop's Stortford that you mentioned.1 -
JamieJ89 said:Is somewhere on the C2C Fenchurch line not an option? Train line is cheaper, more reliable and trains have air con in the hot summer months. Fenchurch St is a 10min walk away from Liverpool St Station so maybe an option?

It's an expensive area. Chelmsford is the same, houses have got very expensive there recently. You can probably get something in Witham, but wouldn't be looking at particularly nice bits. Colchester might be better. There are terraces and things available for that sort of money, but you'd be stretching the hour's commute a little unless you discount time spent getting to the railway station. Are Essex and Hertfordshire diverse? Perhaps, but you aren't going to find many significant non-white areas outside the M25; the populations are fairly well integrated.0

You could try doing a search on Right move within, say, 25 miles of Chelmsford and see what comes up.

I think you will struggle in this era to find an area that isn't diverse
I live close to Broxbourne , its heavily overpriced due to a very well performing secondary school , you may find a flat within that budget but your paying for the "name" of the area and it is does have its problem areas.
within a 45 minute commute , Harlow is probably one of your better bets but again to achieve a more desirable part such as old harlow you are going to have to spend more.
Hertford , ware will both have flats in that price range but not houses and in my opinion are nicer then Broxbourne.
have you considered Braintree or Saffron Walden ? Although this would extend your journey you are far more likely to pick up a house in these areas for the prices you are looking at0 -
I'm on the C2C line but couldn't think of anywhere that nice on that budget unless you'll consider a flat.
Tbh I would far rather a nice flat with a long lease in a really decent area than a 2+ hour commute! Takes me around 45-50 mins on the train, but 10 mins this end, then time to get wherever the other end. Time soon adds up! I'd not want a long journey unless I lived 2 mins from the station both ends.2024 wins: *must start comping again!*0 -

My budget is around £250-£260k for a FTB.
Where can I get a house with a commute of about 45min to an 1 hour to Liverpool st?
Prefer not a run down area and diverse.
Looked at Bishops stortford but don't want to be close to airport and heard not best place.
Broxbourne I know nothing about.
Thoughts welcome
