Hi
I have lost my log book but i do have a scanned electronic copy.  I do have all the information i need when it comes to selling the car, i .e. document reference number.  Can i just print it off and use it when it comes to selling the car or do i have to buy a duplicate log book for £25.00?
If you sell the car and tell dvla via the website it sends the V5C log book to the buyer in 4 weeks.
Thanks in advance.

Best to get a new logbook mate, it will make selling the car on easy.
People are caught up in an egotistic artificial rat race to display a false image to society. We want the biggest house, fanciest car, and we don't mind paying the sky high mortgage to put up that show. We sacrifice our biggest assets our health and time, We feel happy when we see people look up to us and see how successful we are”

What sort of price car is it? If it is cheap then just print it off and give the buyer that; they can always check on DVLA website that the numbers are valid and they can change ownership online too. If it is an expensive car and a picky buyer then you'll need the real deal.

Go on to the DVLA website and do a dummy run to transfer your car to another keeper.  Assuming you have all the info you will be good to go. (Caveat you are selling to a private buyer)

Whether a buyer sees it the same way is another story.

Rule 1 of car buying. Don't buy a car without the V5C.

Would you buy one from Joe Random who says "Ah, yes, I've lost it, sorry, but the number works still... honest..." No, nor me.

It's £25... As nudges go to sort your important-document filing out, that's cheap.

All you need to transfer keeper online is the Ref no off the V5C so if you know the number it will work and the transfer is usually instantly. You'll receive an email saying you're no longer the registered keeper and the new keeper will receive their new V5C in the post within a couple of days.

Whether the buyer agrees to this is up to them if they want to see the old V5C document first before purchasing the car.
  • As above, if you can do the transfer online with your buyer present then there should be no issue as long as it works immediately.
The only thing you cannot do that is required is give them the NEW KEEPER slip.
For the sake of £25 I'd get a new V5C and keep it all in order.

Depends what the car is worth, if it's a £500 banger then as long as the buyer is happy with the online transfer then save yourself £25. Buyer will have new V5C in a couple of days. If you do it the old fashioned way and fill it out with pen and post it, buyer will be waiting 6 weeks + covid time for new V5C to come through. While all the time the new buyer is driving around in a car with a number plate potentially still in your name.
