Aldermore Bank

It seems to have some of the best interest rates for savers at the moment but I have never heard of it. Where can I find out how legitimate it is compared to a high street bank?

  • I have held accounts with them for many years with no problems whatsover.
  • I had fixed savers with them in 2019/2020 and no issues.

    FCA website?
Remember the saying: if it looks too good to be true it almost certainly is.

What do you mean by legitimate? They have a UK banking licence, are FCA regulated and are covered by FSCS protection. This doesn't guarantee that they will always have the best possible customer service (no opinion on whether they do or not, just noting that standards vary), but it does guarantee that your money will be as safe with them as it is with any high street bank.

Just make sure that you're dealing with the real Aldermore bank and not a clone scam if you've found an interest rate that seems too good to be true on an Internet advert. Check best buy tables and follow links from a reputable website, like MSE. https://www.moneysavingexpert.com/savings/savings-accounts-best-interest/

They are one of a group of smaller banks , who do not offer current accounts or general banking services. They mainly bring funds in via savings accounts and lend out to small businesses.
Similar to Aldermore are Paragon, Shawbrook, Charter, RCI and many others .

A good place to find out general information on banks is Wikipedia. You can check the history to see if there's just been a massive hack of it; if not, then it's a summary of what a bank does, when it was founded and so on - the public knowledge. In Aldermore's case, you see it was a FTSE 250 component until a South African company took it over. Its customers are mainly businesses.
