Thanks everyone - you’ve made me feel a lot better about the whole situation 😊0

Better you found out now, then after he'd started work and money became involved.

If he's on 'Checkatrade' or similar you could try leaving a review along with the text of the email received after rejecting his quote.

If he is then tell them about your experience and he won't be on there for long.TELLIT01 said:If he's on 'Checkatrade' or similar you could try leaving a review along with the text of the email received after rejecting his quote.
What an extraordinary thing for a grown man to say.No man is worth crawling on this earth.
So much to read, so little time.0 -
Sadly not necessarily true. I saw something recently on TV, possibly on Rip Off Britain, where one of these organisations removed negative comments if their member complained about them - which they obviously did. Their excuse was that negative comments are often not genuine and intended to cause reputational damage. They also admitted that its members were encouraged to request positive reviews from customers.Rosa_Damascena said:

I encountered a rogue, spoke with Checkatrade about the listing detailing the poor quality of work and threats that had been made and the builder in question was removed from listings, stat.TELLIT01 said:

The issue is theirs and you shouldn't engage any further
You can have some sympathy, of the feelings if not the language, though. Quoting costs money, and with many websites its real cash and not just time. I doubt that many companies quote more than they consider is fair for the job but you'll receive a fairly wide spread of prices. 95% of people choose the cheapest option and then we get all the questions posted on the Consumer Rights forums when the cheapest quote wants to increase the price or doesn't do a satisfactory job.1 -
The advice is generally to get a minimum of 3 quotes for any work so trades should be used to not getting jobs they quote for. They need to factor ALL their costs into their quotes. If the roofer in question is as pushy as the OP says then I suspect they loose plenty of jobs because of their attitude. Pushing for answers suggests desperation for work, which itself suggests they aren't very good.Sandtree said:The issue is theirs and you shouldn't engage any further

Thanks everyone. He isn’t on Check-a-trade etc but had a few recommendations on the Nextdoor app (I’m now thinking friends/family most likely!).If anyone asks for roofing recommendations from now on I will message them privately and tell them to avoid him. I don’t want to publicly warn people off just in case (as he obviously knows where I live!).I’m just so glad now that I didn’t give this guy a penny and I hope never to hear from him again 🤞🏻I’ve also learnt a few things next time I need some work done!1
