Another Example of Spurious Eon Final Bill

Checked my final bill and it is not correct. Eon claim they have been received a reading that does not match reality (around 1000 out) from Green. The reading is obviously inconsistent with the last reading in Eon's records from a month previous. I asked them to stop the incorrrect bill, but they said as it had been submitted and there is nothing they can do.  So I will have to stop my direct debit to avoid them "stealing" my money.
I have contacted Green to attack it from their end, but this is supposed to be routine and easy.
How common is this?
How long will it take to sort this out?

It's probably The Mysterious Third Party.  Just make sure that the closing E.On reading and opening Green reading are the same.  Not a good idea to stop the DD, you'll just find that the bill goes up because you'll be booted onto an expensive standard tariff.
Note that the reading can be challenged if it exceeds a threshold.

Have E.On been using actual readings for their bills, or estimates? Did you supply an actual reading at transfer time to Green, or was that an estimate too?

This seems to be quite frequent complaint amongst post to this forum.  If uncorrected, although Eon may be "stealing" your money in the short term, in the long term they are stealing from Green because your new and old provider are obliged to use the same reading.  "Final" bills are often not final and can be subsequently amended.

On Smarts so both companies have accurate readings. I also provided readings a few days after transfer.  The reading Eon are using is actually higher than my actual reading today though they have an A for actual next to it!
4824 being used by Eon middle of April  3835 by me a few days after transfer 3832 by Smart earlier that day 3839 next day 4014 26 May. So 3824 would be reasonable which makes me think someone has thick fingers or it is software designed by the same company that provided to the Post Office.
I disagree on companies taking money they are not owed out of my account as this a flagrant breech of their privilege.
Companies seem very keen to keep the Direct Debits open, but not to address problems when they occur.

Do you know if Green are using the same "final" reading as Eon?

No bill yet so cannot be sure. They have multiple readings that are less. They have acknowledged, but not  replied to my query.
This is a case of deja vue in that I had a problem switching my broadband landline package which left me with a fault that has not yet been fixed 15 months later.

There is a process known as an Agreed Readings Dispute that either supplier can invoke (subject to an industry limit); that said, under SLCs both suppliers are required to use the same reading to open and close an account. The losing supplier has to use the industry provided reading or raise an ARD.

Once the transfer reading has been agreed then, if it is higher than your actual meter reading, you will not pay for the same units twice. You will only pay the daily standing charge until your meter index passes the agreed opening reading. In a market of rising prices, overpaying your old supplier can leave you a £ or so better off.

Green appear to be getting on with it after I copied my reading of the situation

I have just sent them a photo of the meter.
Eon requested feedback on their response to my querry but I am waiting to see what they say. They had not mentioned the ARD process which I presume they should have done.

    This explains the process:
