O/S Daily Thursday 27 May 2021
This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning
Morning everyone
Hugs to those that want/need them, those who are poorly and those who are looking after a poorly person x
Happy birthday to those with a birthday x
Cloudy overcast and wet underfoot with lots of laying water. More rain forecast.
DH and DS1 getting ready for work, I'm showered, dressed and I'm enjoying my first cuppa and my porridge whilst on here. DS2 settled and happy.
Dinner last night was gammon, egg, chips/salad. Tonight we'll be having cold gammon and anything else that needs using up from the fridge with either pasta in a sauce or a veg rice, but will be a "use up" meal.
Yesterday work wasn't too bad, and I got done what I wanted in the afternoon - just have today then I'm on days off until Tuesday - so looking forward to the extra day off.
Keep safe and well x

Morning folks. Thanks for starting us off nmlc.Yesterday afternoon was again full of making phone calls and completing the online 'Tell us once' service, hope I got it right. DM's bank also has an online notification system, that one asked for a scan of the death certificate and Will. I haven't got the certified Will back from the court in Edinburgh yet but did what I could. Just when I thought I had told all the organisations that needed told two more popped into my head late last night. They're on the list for today.DM's direct cremation takes place tomorrow morning at 9.00am so I'll sit here with a wee glass of fizz to toast her. Her crossword friend is coming to be with me. Afterwards I'm thinking about going home for the weekend. Not sure yet! There's still tons of paperwork to sift through.DP1 - earlier I saw test your DD is in Bavaria, my DM was born in Tübingen though the family moved to Berlin shortly afterward. Now it's time to rouse properly. My thoughts to all our poorlies. Happy Thursday to all.14

Morning All
Will be thinking of you and your Mum tomorrow morning Gers.
It's a bit foggy this morning and still quite chilly but apparently we're having the sunshine later, we'll see! Washing in, will put that out before I go to work - last day of the week for me and Monday off too.
DD, the little one and me are going to travel down south tomorrow to see my Aunt, not seen her for a year and a half so looking forward to that but expect to see a big difference in her. We're staying at a Travelodge for which we have paid an arm and a leg but it's worth it.
Hope you all have a good day, take care. XX14 -
Morning all, I probably haven't posted on the daily for ten or more years though I usually read along
Gers, the one service worked excellently when used in August 2019 so hopefully it will work for you.13 -
Morning folks and thanks NMLC. Wot!! No wind or rain forecast for today! And next week's forecast is sounding pretty good. Is summer coming at last!
GERS I shall be thinking of you tomorrow morning and I'm glad you will have company at 9.00 a.m. It's not a time to be alone. I hope you do manage to get home for a few days afterwards - I'm sure the paperwork can sit and wait for a few days. x
Not a lot planned for today, just the usual Thursday clean of the kitchen and bathroom. A delivery is expected from Pets-at-Home at some point. This cat will have me in the poor house before long!
I finally made the flatbreads yesterday TAFF. A success but I will try and get them a bit thinner next time to reduce the "baking" time in the pan. Have a good day folks if you can and ((HUGS)) for all our poorlies, poorly loved ones or those with worries and woes. Take care one and all xx"If you dream alone it will remain just a dream. But if we all dream together it will become reality"14 -
Morning! Super sunny and it got really warm yesterday, so much so that it was still quit warm at half ten last night. And the replacement cable worked so back to lounging on my throne as the OH calls it to type in comfort. It did bring home to me very clearly just how much time I spend in front of the computr though. Must change that. I did a lot of shredding yesterday and added it to a bucket for the compost so we no longer have bits and pieces of paper hanging round. Now we just have a shreddder instead. Hmm...Not sure that was a good bargain. Some re-sowing today, cucumbers and courgette rotted, so I'll do some more, followed by a stint in the garden working out where some edges are going. I saw a right old to do going on in the giant tree this morning, a big fight between about five crows and ten magpies,it was like West Side Story with the Jets and the Sharks circling each other doing the 'Hold me back!', 'no, leave it, he's not worth it' kind of squawking..TA... flatbreads...hmm..well, i tried normal runny yoghurt in them last night, result is quite damp and you can't roll them out as thinly [I usually have to gently peel them off the worktop o throw them in the pan] but they do have a crispier texture when cool on the edges than you get with greek yoghurt which gives you a softer texture and fluff up more during cooking. I also threw a lump of oregano in them to change it up. Hark at me, mrs connosieur woman of easy cooking...Gers, a bit of r and r at your home woulnd't go amiss I'd say, paperwork can wait for a bit. Camelot, enjoy reconnecting with family! snoozer, you only have to read the briths, deaths and marriages forum to realise just how many people don't plan, don't organise and just blithely assume everything and everyone will be adult and honourable about things. Ruby, don't think we'll be lunching and I always spend far too much too. You put ten tiny things in your torlley and suddenly get a 600 pound bill! Glad it's not just me...nanny, watch your toes with the mower...Right, I'm off to drink more tea and not stay on the computer all day...Hope you get some rays today!Non me fac calcitrare tuum culi14

Morning all
Bright and sunny here and set in for the day I think, wm is doing its thing and I shall hang the washing out for a while.
DD is off for two nights to a cottage in the new forrest with a friend so I shall have two days of peace and quiet, and only one pup to walk today, tomorrow my pup is going to the in laws for the day so I am going to have a whole day to myselfwhich will be bliss I have planned a day of sloth !! no one to look after or dogs who need walking bliss !!
I have changed my shopping day to today so will go and get that at lunch time. Pie and mash for dinner with some veg that needs eating so a nice easy dinner.
DW needs empying and re filling and a quick tidy through.
Gers I think a direct cremation is the way to go, I shall be thinking of your dear mum tomorrow but will have a cuppa instead of the fizz otherwise I will be drunk by 9.30 ! I hope you manage to get home this weekend, much love xxx
Have good days all xx12 -
Morning all
Thanks for the thread nmlc and hugs to all those in need.
Flying visit, moving again today.
Have a good day everyone.
Hugs Hester.Chin up, Titus out.11 -
Morning, hugs if you need one.
Gers, I will be sitting in harmony with you tomorrow, with a mug of coffee, it would do you a world of good to go home for a few days if you can manage it. The break will allow you to recharge your batteries a little after the very stressful time you have been through. I will be thinking about you.
Yesterday I embroidered the pocket for the third book pillow. I am still waiting for the zips, cannot put them together until I have them.......
Supposed to be fine and warm? our heating kicked in this morning it was so cold. I have the towels in the washer, hope to get them dry on the line. It rained on and off for most of the day yesterday.
Cupboards stocked up, I dropped a clanger and ordered 12 eggs, henny penny, is still quite full, so I guess eggs are going to be the food of choice to eat them up.
Supper tonight will be bacon frittata and salad, raspberries in jelly for dessert with the last of the custard.10 -
Morning all, dull but dry here. Downstairs needs a bit of a blitz after the DGC were here after school. TBH it's not just them, there is decorating stuff in the dining part along with a box of beer for the weekend, just in case it's nice.I rang up to cancel our Lake District trip next weekend
Not only are we in a Covid hotspot, but also DH had a call from the garage to say he'd tried to get the part but its unavailable for a month!
I'm another who spends too long sat at my laptop, what with admin for DH business, family history sites, here etc...Will be thinking of you tomorrow Gers. Hope you get back home for a bit, I'm sure you could do with a change after the last months x:heartsmil 'A woman is like a teabag: You never know her strength until you drop her in hot water'. Hi everyone,
Taff, even having a will doesn't guarantee things will be ok. Grandad had a business which he left to his sons to run with the proviso that if it was sold the proceeds would be split by all the remaining children (3boys, 4 girls). the boys persuaded 3 of my aunts to sign relinquishing their rights but mum wouldn't until it became clear that there would have to be a very expensive court case to sort it out. As a result mum was estranged from all but one of her siblings for many years.
Gers, I agree you should go home, especially if the weather is going to be nice.
We are going for a walk somewhere near the sea, maybe West Kirby before we have lunch and then head back to pick up the camper van and go home.13
