Shower - is this right?

Plywood is not an ideal base for tiles as it doesn't bond correctly with tile adhesive.  Cement board should be used on tiled areas.

Interesting different views. The tiled buit was mine and it could be any sort of board for I know, was just assuming! I was away that day. Have had no issues though so seems done well!

And yes I am not saying it would be "standard" but it was old and needed doing. And given the price should have been IMO or cheaper.

Which is all good and well but most people have no idea what to ask for or expect right? Most people as my mother did wiould just ask for a bathroom with a shower/toilet/sink and leave the rest to them. (she did ask for the horrible plastic walling, but that might have been becuase of price if they said tiled would be a lot more (not that there is a reason it would given the cost).

Thanks all though, nice to get a feel for things! And the waste pipe thing was my main "real" issue! Thouhg it does not seem to be causing the issue as it must be further down, just that I will have to remove pipes off the wall outside to get a look in now!. (should a couple of different types of unblocker fail which I have said to try!)

That would normally be part of the quote if they are supplying. So what did they quote for? 

As far as she is saying she just asked for  a good deal and left it to them. Even if she asked for it should they not say, are you sure becuase...?

Possibly. But proving it either way that your mother didn't ask for it could be difficult. Hence asking what was in the written quote?

All academic anyway I guess. No idea why she insisted on some random person ratehr than using the small company I had previous and was very happy with. But hey that's people!
