Compliance Checks

I hope this is in the right place. I've had a job offer from HSBC and obviously their going through all the normal checks etc and I've provided all the paperwork they've asked for which includes a 5 yr history from HMRC statement showing that I've not been working, I've also shown my daughters birth certificates from 2011 & 2013 as I haven't worked since then up to 2020 as my husband provided for us, they've said is there any way I can prove I haven't been earning any money as it's a long time?! My online bank statements only go back to 2016! So I'm at a loss on what to provide? In all the application it only asks for 5 yrs worth of things! I was wondering if anyone could shed any light on what else I could send
Thanks in advance

Have you asked your bank if they can provide statements going further back?0

Since they've gotten back to me I've been working but if they can I'm sure there's a charge because they have to go back on microfiche. As we can pretty much see what the bank see!0

Ask them what will be accepted.
Do you have child benefit / WTC letters or anything like that?Mortgage started 2020, aiming to clear 31/12/2029.0 -
Your bank statements prove precisely nothing - you could have a second account quietly snoozing away under your maiden name, for example, or have been paid in cash and popped it under the mattress in the time honoured fashion.RavenQueen said:I hope this is in the right place. I'd put this one straight back in HSBC's court, making it clear that you are very keen to provide what they need (you do after all, want the job), but could they perhaps suggest what is required and how to obtain it.Googling on your question might have been both quicker and easier, if you're only after simple facts rather than opinions!0 -
Even if they do charge, wouldn't it be worth it to get the job?RavenQueen said:Since they've gotten back to me I've been working but if they can I'm sure there's a charge because they have to go back on microfiche. As we can pretty much see what the bank see!1 -
It's near impossible to prove something didn't happen. Lack of evidence of an event isn't the same as proof that it didn't happen. I don't know if HMRC can provide records going back more than 5 years, but even that will only prove that you weren't declaring income.

You can not prove a negative, so it is impossible to prove you have not been working, but you could demonstrate that it is probable you have not been working.
If your youngest child started attending school in 2017/2018 for example, you might need to explain your reasons that you did not start working then, what you did with your time when both children were in school etc. You could also use joint/family bank statements to show that your husband was paying for everything (bills, food, mortgage, days out, your personal spending money etc.).
Also, have a chat with the HR department and ask them what they might actually want/need from you.1 -
Well they have come back to me today after I sent them an email yesterday explaining again my daughters ages and how close together they are, there's a couple of years. Then going into detail about nursery and school etc. So they are giving me a call tomorrow. It wouldn't be so bad but I've worked for Local Government since Dec 2020 so they obviously did checks as well and they've given me a reference, DBS checks are fine, I do feel that it seems very nit picky1

Banks are not being very big picky, they have to be careful about who works for them due to potential access to a lot of money.
Unfortunately, they have a process and it has to be followed, even temps have to jump through the same hoops for 12 week's of work.Mortgage started 2020, aiming to clear 31/12/2029.0 -
I have worked for banks before and never had to go through this scrutiny, like I said in Dec I was working for local government and I'm also working a government contract now. So I feel that from my references and DBS checks should reflect this. Its like they're moving the goalposts. Like a PP has said, I can't prove something I haven't done!MovingForwards said:Banks are not being very big picky, they have to be careful about who works for them due to potential access to a lot of money.
