We have been unknowingly switched to eon next no choice and receive a monthly request for meter reading and pay bills monthly.
we are pensioners and have always paid our bills ahead of time. We do not want direct debit as we’ve had problems before and eon messed up this Xmas with dd.    Is there any company who do quarterly? Eon basically say if you don’t like it leave

I suspect you mean that when you received your quarterly bill you paid it within the time period allowed after receipt, unfortunately that means you are asking the energy company to allow you to build up 3 months of charges before you settle your account and that is getting much harder to find these days.
There are suppliers like SSE that will still let you pay at the end of each quarter, but they do want you to pay via a variable Direct Debit, I'm not currently aware of anyone still allowing you to run up three months of debt and then pay manually on receipt of the bill...

E.oN took over NPower and then bought into Octopus Energy’s Kraken Technology Platform for billing. E.oN Next was set up as a separate entity using the Kraken platform and ex NPower customers were migrated to it. The migration was so successful that E.oN decided to migrate all its customers to the new platform.

We have been with Octopus Energy for 3 years and we have found Kraken to be a first class billing system. You can vary your monthly DD and/or make an online payment. A statement is generated each time a reading is entered into the system. My wife and I are also pensioners and my advice, FWiW, is give monthly DDs another try. You are not giving up control of your account.

You're probably paying far more than is necessary: once because you are with E.On, seldom the cheapest company, and then again because you aren't paying by Direct Debit.  A real Double Whammy !
Consider switching: start comparing with Citizens Advice and 'Which? Switch', ignoring all projections and savings claims, comparing the annual costs derived from actual meter readings.  Go for DD, noting that if they make a mistake you are entitled to a full and immediate repayment directly from your bank.

I have the same problem with Eon and this new monthly payment regime I also have been trying to create a new login to view this new account,  but,  never get an email to do so and have never received a request to pay since it was changed. I will look at Utilita to switch and hope they do not require a smart meter.

Similar problems, first I knew about it was a "late payment" email with threats of additional charge from Eon Next, attached was a scanned bill they claim to have sent, e-mail has clickable links (something I was always told to be wary of) - Eon confirmed it was genuine but I needed to speak with Eon Next, Over 30 mins to get through on the phone and phone lines shut are only 8:00 to 17:00, with only my lunch break to make calls this is no good (no complaints about the person I finally spoke to) But Eon next needs an on-line account, not a requirement of Eon. As it's so difficult to speak to them as soon as the three month embargo on switching accounts is done guess what I am doing!!
  • We to have had the same problem with eon next taking over our billing from eon without proper notification.  Very frustrating phone call with Eon next but it is basically we don't do quarterly billing so take it or leave it.  We do not wish to pay by DD (as we have had problems in the past reclaiming monies overpaid which is why we went back onto quarterly billing)) and yes everyone will say its cheaper than quarterly billing but that is our choice or was until this happened.  Feel we are being bullied into paying monthly.  In addition the bill says you have 7 days to pay but no issue date on bill , probably taken 7 days to get to us so maybe overdue already who knows.?
With hindsight I do recall the last time I tried to log into my eon account it did ask me to re register to eon next maybe I should have taken more notice at the time but don't think or remember there being any information of this migration from one eon platform to another when I did this.
Never switched before but will definitely look into it now even if we end up paying monthly DD with someone else at least it will be our choice.

I'm glad I'm not the only one fed up with e.on Next (as distinct from e.on).

Nothing about e.on Next is better.

    1) They send bills monthly instead of quarterly
Then they nag for meter readings

    2) Their bill layout is dreadful.
    Tiny, wispy font.
The bill (and other correspondence) is always headed:
    "Your energy bill". Not helpful....
...especially when one has forcibly been migrated both from nPower and e.on to e.on Next.

The old e.on Bill had both "Your Gas Bill" and the ££ amount in large text on the front.

    3) Following suggestions to consider Direct Debit, I looked for Unit Prices.
As usual, Unit Prices are buried.....
..and with two accounts with identical names having different Unit prices the doubt continues.
(No it wasn't DD v RoB)

Like other posters, I've had issues with DD by utility companies.
I certainly don't want fixed monthly payments.
And like other posters I find Quarterly billing much more convenient.

[What other people choose / prefer is up to them - so a plea.
Please answer the OP's Question rather imply that someone's different preference is "wrong".]
