My husband is not entitled to any benefits

My husband got made redundant last October after being furloughed since March. He had a small payout which has since been paid on bills. I’m working 60 hours a week to pay for everything and he is entitled to nothing so I even have to give him spending money and pay for his car to go job searching. We have a 9 yr old son so it’s difficult to find a job that works around my shift work and childcare. I’m exhausted but he cannot even claim jobseekers

What hours was he working prior to being furloughed?
A question to those working at DWP.  Is it possible that people who would normally have qualified for Conts based benefits are now not entitled due to the period of furlough and the reduced income?

Has the OP's husband claimed the contribution-based element of JSA?

The employer still pays the NI on furlough pay, so it'd need to be a pretty substantial drop for no stamp to be paid.

have you checked https://www.entitledto.co.uk/ to be 100% sure there's nothing you are eligible to claim?
You can also play around with the calculator to see whether if you were not working such long hours you would become eligible - it may be that if you are doing a lot of overtime that's what pushing you out of eligibility, and tht working more normal hours might mean he was entitle to claim something .

As he isn't working at present, would he be able to do a comprehensive review of you joint finances and see if you can save money anywhere so you're under less financial strain as a family?  The debt boards here are very good if you want to review outgoings and there are lots of money saving suggestions elsewhere to.

Has he considered supermarket or delivery work? they can work quite well if you are having to fit around shifts or childcare.  A lot of restaurants are reopening and many are short staffed as non-UK staff returned home when lockdown hit - is that something he could look into? As he isn't entitled to benefits at present even part time or irregular hours would help, while he continues to look for full time work.
