Debt Collectors & Credit Score

Hi,
A doctor whom my wife was seeing has passed on my wifes contact details to a debt collection agency for non payment of invoices. We have medical insurance and I have contacted the insurance company and checked if the invoices have been paid and they have paid all those which they have received. As far as I am concerned the payment process exists between the doctor and the insurance company and yet for non-payment of invoices the doctor claims they have not received payment for they have given our details to a debt collection agency. The doctor claims they sent us a letter but we have had no letters or telephone calls regarding any outstanding invoices, nor have we received any letters from the debt collection agency, just text messages and phone calls.
I am not concerned about resolving the payment situation as this will resolve itself, but I am concerned that the actions of the doctor may go against my wife's credit file.
Can anyone please tell me if having your details passed to a debt collection agency goes on your credit file or do things have to go further before your credit file is impacted?
Thanks,
Paul.

As long as the debt is being paid, it doesn't matter who is collecting it.

I'm sorry, I don't understand your answer. There is a question around whether the debt even exists at all as there is a clear disconnect between the doctor and the insurance company. The doctor claims they have not been paid for 2 invoices and the insurance company are saying that they have paid them already. My question is simply concerning whether or not the doctors actions (which were to instruct a debt collector against my wife) will impact/get logged on my wifes credit file?

It makes no difference who is pursuing  the debt - the doctor or the DCA.

Until a CCJ is obtained, there will be nothing on her credit files.

Ah OK, brilliant. I didn't really have any idea about what goes on your credit file, when and by what actions so thank you for your answer, much appreciated.

Just to clear one thing up, if your wife is the one who approached the doctor and contracted them to supply services, your wife is the one who is responsible for paying the bill.  She then has her own contract with the insurance co to reimburse her but that is none of the doctors concern.

The debt collector is just acting on behalf of the Doctor.

All they can do is write to you, and call you, the debt remains with the original company.

If the matter is in dispute, then that should be taken up with the relevant party.
