O/S Daily Wednesday 26 May 2021
This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning
Morning everyone
Hugs to those that want/need them, those who are poorly and those who are looking after a poorly person x
Happy birthday to those with a birthday x
DH up and gone to work stupid stupid early, DS1 getting ready for work, I'm showered, dressed and I'm enjoying my first cuppa and my porridge whilst on here. DS2 settled and happy.
Cloudy overcast start to the day - rain forecast yet again.
Dinner last night was braised pork steaks and LO's of mash, veg and yorkshires. Tonight will be gammon, egg and chips.
Today is my short day - I'm working until lunch time only. I have several jobs to do this afternoon.
Keep safe and well x

Morning folks. Thanks for starting us off nmlc.My hopes for the removal of the hospital bed were dashed, the district nurse gave me a number to phone to make arrangements. June 11 is the first appointment 😱 Anyway the lovely nurse took away the 'just in case' box and records along with all the spare catheter equipment.Another day of phone calls. The Registrar rang to complete their processes, it was so easy and pleasant. After the first call on Monday they had sourced my Dad's birth / death certificates plus their marriage / divorce certificates from the records databases. I've ordered four extra death certificates though I think I will only need two. DM had simplified her financial affairs a number of years ago so there's only her current account and premium bonds to deal with. All the other organisations were happy to put things in my name for the meantime.Today I'm taking a short break from going through papers to meet up with Alan for breakfast. It may only be poached eggs on toast but I'm so looking forward to it.My thoughts are with our poorlies. I wish everyone a happy Wednesday.16

Morning All
Enjoy your breakfast Gers!
Running a bit late this morning, don't know what I do in the morning as I've been up since 5! Nothing much happening anyway so I will wish you all a decent Wednesday. Take care. XX14 -
Morning...sunny and cloudy at the same time. managed a spectacular trip over my headphone cable last night and managed to wrench my arm again, my foot and break the computer display cable.OH told me I'd better not get a job because if I'm this clumsy in the house, who knows how bad I'd be in a work environment. So one of today's jobs is to buy a new adapter and hope it's that and not the internal computer display connection otherwise it's a send it off for repair or brand new computer time...luckily we have the laptop for now although using it is a bit of a trial, I keep pressing buttons so the printer menu comes up, or the window minimises or it opens a new window. Not used to typing above a mouse pad.The architects meeting went well, we'll have a house worthy of appearing on television and a bank balance of the meanest beggar on the streets. Cut the grass and strimmed [ yes nanny, I did the edges...], blood test was good, it was practically painless so I said thank you to the nurse. You'd swear she'd never been thanked before because she did a proper double take and was very surprised. Nice girl.So today is a visit to a computer shop of some kind, a bit of garden potter, silently panic over copious amounts of cash that will be spent in the future [am I scared about that? Hell yes! but I want a comfortable house more] and email the architects back with revisions. My mother always used to say about my grans house in Italy, there's no comfort there at all, and it's a] still true and b] been the same here. Oh well, you've got to smash a few ostrich eggs to make a humongous omelette haven't you?Gers, enjoy your breakfast. That was very farsighted of your mum to spare you the stress of dealing with an unsimplified estate. Scarlet, hope you shopped without dropping. TA, hope you got new scales. When I discovered digital ones I was so happy! they're so much easier than to have to keep tapping the bowl to reset to zero on the other kind. Ruby, how was ikea? I have to take OHs mum next week...Florence, hope your cold is better.Glad you had a nice day AOD. Right, I am away to stir myself and stuff, have a good day if you can...Non me fac calcitrare tuum culi14

Morning folks and thanks NMLC. Another dull start but feels milder and, of course, showers are forecast at some point. Yesterday we escaped the rain until early evening when it suddenly came down like stair rods. I thought the front windows were going through they were getting such a battering!
GERS enjoy your breakfast meet up. A bit of normality will do you the world of good. Enjoy it.
Today it's my baby boys birthday - he will be 46. Where does the time go. He called yesterday to collect his present and card after a very mini break in the lakes - an early treat. They have a little bolt hole near Bowness they book into every now and then.
My little trip to buy some kitchen scales ended up a long trip! DD texted to say she was off to the big B & M in Skipton if I wanted to come. Of course I did! But knowing DD and her love of shopping it didn't stop there, we also trawled Tesco, Morrisons and TKMaxx before heading home with 3 bags of stuff (and some plants) I didn't know I needed!! But I did get my scales, the most important bit. So some shiny new black ones (Russell Hobbs) to play with today. They slot into the little place vacated by the dead ones nicely.
Have a good day folks if you can and ((HUGS)) for all our poorlies or poorly loved ones. Take care one and all and keep safe xx

Morning all.
Somehow life has got quite busy and I've not been around much. Goodness knows what I have been busy with, it certainly doesn't show, but today I'm off to help at the mini-market so it will be a quick hello and goodbye.
Gers, your mother should be an inspiration to us all, to get our affairs as clear and simple as we can for the sake of those who have to clear up behind us. My Dad was the same, everything simple and straightforward. You will have mixed emotions for quite a while, you know we are all rooting for you.
Hope the sun shines at some stage today for all of us.I believe that friends are quiet angels
Who lift us to our feet when our wings
Have trouble remembering how to fly.15 -
Morning, Hugs if you need one.
Gers, enjoy your breakfast, I am pleased your Mum thought to simplify her finances, we did the same 2 years ago, all necessary paper work in the same place and straightforward money affairs.
Its dull but has stopped raining, the wind which built up again yesterday has died back. DB is itching to get back into the garden, we are away for a few days next month, so need to think about whats required clothes wise etc,
I need to get on and embroidery the pink cushion fronts, still waiting for the zips to arrive, hopefully later today.
Have just fetched a container of mince out of the freezer, we are having spag bol with garlic bread tonight. There is Scotch broth for lunchtime.12 -
Hi everyone,
Gers, enjoy your breakfast and good on your mum. The thing I am dreading if Steve goes first is all the computer stuff, I know I'll have a job finding all the accounts and passwords etc, the finance stuff is fine but all the utilities, tv etc will be a real pain in the whatsit. He's a bit ostrichy about the whole thing whereas I want to be very open about what's what. I think Chris is my best bet as an ally because Laura too doesn't want to think about the inevitable happening to us. That reminds me, I must talk to her about making a plan for Esben's care just in case.
Sorry for the slightly morbid topic but my tendency to be pragmatic about these things was much increased by my stint as Town Clerk, responsible for the cemetery and burials, you would not believe the things that go on (including on one memorable occasion being given a death threat).
I'm just waiting for Steve to pack his stuff, you would not believe how long it takes him to pack for one night away. Then we're off to the Wirral via Doncaster and back again tomorrow. It will be nice to see Steve's nephew and family because we've not seen them for about 18 months.14 -
Morning all. the sun is shining here - hooray!
I had an EPA for both my mother and her cousin and we did exactly the same simplification process with their money. I have told our children where our wills are and hope they remember when the time comes. DH has a printed list of passwords but it is a bit scribbled on now and could do with updating so that could be a little project for him.
Yesterday we went to a garden centre for lunch and happened to meet another couple we knew who were doing the same thing so we had adjacent tables and a good chat and catch up. Today I must do the ironing, some food shopping and make a chilli for dinner as tomorrow I'm driving down to Southampton for a friend's funeral and could be out all day.
Well done on the scales TA. I have some Joseph Jo***** ones which have a stainless steel pan and I think they're wonderful.
Hope everyone's day day goes smoothly.14 -
Morning all
Bright and sunny here and no rain due today which is a small miracle !! WM is doing its thing and I will be able to hang the washing out today !
Taff we had a good day at IKEA it was not too busy and we managed to get a table for lunch at the cafe, you are supposed to book the cafe online before you go but they did it for us on the day, maybe try and book if you are having lunch, I spent far too much money on things I didn't know I neededbut I got two nice bedding sets which were needed and a couple of new chopping boards amongst other things, we were all shattered once we got in though as we have not been out properly for well over a year !
Onto today I was meant to be taking mum to alter her will but she has just phoned and cancelled as she has a streaming cold, I am getting my nails done later but other than that I have a free day.
DW needs empying and kitchen needs a tidy and I need to do an online shop for collection Friday.
Will get the dogs out for a walk this morning and hopefully see my friend.
Gers I hope you enjoy your breakfast it will do you the world of good to get out, take care of yourself xxx
Have good days all xx14 -
Hello allYesterday my head was spinning by time the DGC went home, I'd forgotten just how much they chatter and usually both at the same time, my head felt like it had been at a tennis match ! However we had great fun especially when at the dining table DGS covered Mr Fix It in tomato sauce..... by accident of course ! 🤣 We also had a laugh when our 'van friends phoned, we always fall into complete disorder when we get together, even on the phone. Later I spoke to Dad, who is under the weather again and we've tried to get him to sort out his affairs but he says it will give us something to do when he's gone ! Thanks for that, but it has spurred me on with ours and DD knows what and where everything is kept in our house.Today it's supposed to be a dry day so the wm is on, hope the forecast is correct as I need to cut the front lawn if it's not too soggy. I'll have to use the big mower which weighs a ton, but it seems to deal with damp grass better than the hovver, and yes taff I'll do the edges too 😁Gers enjoy your down time with Alan.taff or Clumsy Cara hope you're not too badly hurt. BTW I'm normally in the Clumsy Clara club too and I'm slower than a tortoise these daysHugs to anyone in need, healing vibes to the poorly ones and enjoy your shopping to those going out and about.Take care all.nan xxFailure is simply the opportunity to begin again, but this time more intelligently12
