Money Moral Dilemma: Should I ask my neighbour to pay for the meat they spoiled?

Absolutely do not ask the neighbour for money. Good neighbours are a precious thing, and bad neighbours can make your life unpleasant. You could be starting a long-lasting feud with petty behaviour like that. I would only ever tackle my neighbours over a really big issue. They weren’t at fault. Either they didn’t notice the “perishable goods” label or didn’t realise what it meant. This is not bad behaviour. They aren’t obliged to provide a climate-controlled parcel-holding service, free of charge. They quickly took in your parcel ( how kind), and then went out for the day as planned. The fault is either with the sender or the courier for failing to make a reasonable attempt to deliver the parcel to you. As your purchase was from the seller, your complaint is with them, and they can take it up with the courier if they want to.3

That's a sure fire way to ensure that your neighbour never helps you out in future! THEY did nothing wrong. The fault lies entirely with the delivery driver, and they answer to the company you have a contract with. Ask the meat company for a replacement or refund, let them sort out the delivery company.

Who puts a parcel on a radiator? Are they daft? Also why don’t you support your local butcher instead of mail ordering your veal? You’d get the cuts you want and help your local shops survive. Sounds like a load of mince to me.0

no it is not the neighbours fault it is your fault for not being available to accept the delivery1

If you were in and the courier didn't even knock at your door, it is their responsibility, so contact the company you ordered from and tell them it wasn't delivered to you. It certainly isn't your neighbour's fault, they were doing you a favour by taking it in. I take in parcels for neighbours and it would never occur to me to check instructions, I just get the courier to put them down in the porch and they stay there until collected.2

Couple of things here
1. You did not receive the goods in a fit condition so reclaim from company as the delivery was their responsibility and you were in the house.
2. Why did your Neighbour accept the goods if they knew they were leaving shortly. Again for the Delivery company to query
3. When they said they were out why did you not contact the seller immediately?
4. Why did you dispose of the goods - freeze them and send back as unsuitable?0 -
Absolutely not. Your neighbour did you a favour, they weren’t to know. The delivery company are the issue. Contact the seller, explain that the delivery company have not delivered as requested and request a redelivery. The seller can claim from the delivery company2

Bin the meat; eat your neighbour. Bingo! Problem solved.4

It’s not the neighbour you need to ask, it’s the delivery company. You say you were in when it was due to be delivered but then got a text saying it was left with a neighbour; why wasn’t it delivered directly to you if you were in? I would be getting touch and telling them your goods were damaged and unusable and request a refund through them.2
