Council tax

Options
Can anyone help me with the following. My partner and I live in different houses - he owns his own and I rent mine. Because he spends 3 days a week at my house he was required to be named on the lease. Our agent has forwarded both our names to council tax . Will he now have to pay council tax for both properties ? Or do council tax have a strategy for people who live between two houses ?

Council tax is paid on the property not the person. You will need to declare this to the council and may lose your single-person discount. He will still be liable for council tax on his other property.

A person is regarded as living in a property for Council Tax purposes if it is their sole or main residence. So you will both pay Council Tax on your own homes. He will not be regarded as living in the house for Council Tax reasons so you would keep a single person discount if you have it.

You will need to make the council aware and they will ask questions and ask for proof:
