I applied 3 March for state pension due to start mid-April.
You will not get your new State Pension automatically - you have to claim it. You should get a letter no later than 2 months before you reach State Pension age, telling you what to do.

If you have not received an invitation letter, but you are within 4 months of reaching your State Pension age you can still make a claim.

Possibly the delay for  Robert results from late claim?

Xylophone, thanks for your input. In my particular case I did not get an "invitation letter" so applied proactively on 3 March. Still waiting. Thankfully I'm not hugely dependant on receiving the pension on day 1 - unlike someone physically retiring from paid employment and seeking to substitute the state pension for salary.

Unlikely as it may seem, it might be worth checking if they got an update to date address.

    Did you apply on line?

No - by post.  DWP returned original identity document next day, so have definitely received the application.

  • I have today received a text message from DWP saying my pension application has been processed. Presumably something will arrive in the post shortly. I trust some cash too!  So, if the OP applied by post, 3 months may need to elapse if their situation mirrors my own.

Hm....presumably the "postals" sit in somebody's in tray - the claimant waits until his application form reaches the top of the pile.....

Looks like this is another government department "don't do it by post unless you want to wait several months" situation.
  • Hope you have better luck than me. I turned 66 in May. Each month since then the DWP have failed to pay my pension until I contacted them. The first month they actually paid mine into someone else's bank account!
I'll have to ring them again tomorrow to ask what they have done with this month's which hasn't been paid!

This is very, very poor customer service.

Time for a formal complaint I'd say.

Did online so might help....other it will be dip into savings.

But have to ask the question some folk might find it dam hard to wait for a month in arrears.
