SKY Q Contract ended

Hi there. my contract with SKY actually ended in November last year - having been with them since 2010
I phoned SKY to cancel last Friday and was offered a hugley tempting (NOT) reduction from £ 42.72 down to £ 36 as I have been such a loyal customer for so many years.
To be quite honest if they gave me it for a 25% I'd still have cancelled. But the kicker came when I was informed I had still to give them 31 days notice as per T & C's of a contract that is no longer agreed. I told the lady I had already cancelled my Direct Debit so I had to pay them £ 41.40 as my next payment was due. How can they enforce a 31 day period and further payment if I don't have a contract / agreement. Feel like I have been ripped off. Now awaiting their return packages to send back the SKY Q box and the multiroom box + 2 x controllers. But are they within their rights to expect this additional payment and the 31 days ?

If you didn't read your T&Cs, that's too bad. A deal ending doesn't change the basic fact you're still being supplied with a TV service. All your "contract" is is a discounted rate that you couldn't terminate before its ending. You've always paid in advance for your Sky packages, again documented in the T&Cs. When you joined in 2010 two payments would have gone out in the first month and the paraphernalia/email/correspondence would have told you this.0 -
You do have a contract, which you clearly didn't read,. They wouldn't be supplying you if you without a contract in place. You have come out of the initial minimum term of 12/18/24 months (delete as appropriate) in that contract and gone onto a 31 day minimum term to cancel.

OK many thanks for the replies, at least SKY won't get another penny from me in future.
I'll put their monthly payments into my pension instead, which will be much better use for it.0
