Ghanaian High Commission lost my passport

Hi, can anyone give me some guidance on what to do....I have flights booked to travel to Ghana for 3 weeks time and the Ghanaian High Commission have lost my passport. After I applied for a visa they sent it to the wrong/random address and DX Delivery Courier company didn't bother to check the ID. The Ghana High Commission advised me the address they negligently sent it to but the household tell me that they take all mis-adressed mail to the post office marked 'return to sender' so now I have no passport, no visa and flights due to depart in 3 weeks. Ghana High Commission is telling me that they'll come back to me on Friday...no, Monday......no, Tuesday.....I've told them if they don't confirm the position I'll need to cancel my passport - obvious risk of ID theft - and bill them for new UK passport and cancelled flights for me and my partner.....can I???
Any ideas or contributions are very welcome.

I hope you have already asked the police for help.
You can of course send a bill to the High Commission, but unless they choose to pay you there is little you can do.

You can use the 1 week service to get a replacement passport and presumable the High Commission can put a new visa into it. Should be able to fairly comfortably do it in 3 weeks0

But it's not a straight replacement - a lost passport may take longer than a week to be replaced. If it's really lost then a police report could well be useful, as suggested, plus a statement by the High Commission.
Have you checked with the courier? (Although that may be difficult to do yourself without your actual address involved.) How long since it was delivered and returned..? Presumably it was actually returned correctly by the courier, then it would be worth waiting for the High Commission to resend it.Evolution, not revolution0 -
Gov.UK website states the 1 week service can be used for a lost passport, the faster service cannoteDicky said:But it's not a straight replacement - a lost passport may take longer than a week to be replaced. Your passport will be sent back to the passport office and destroyed as it has been comprised. Make an appointment with your local passport office for the 1 week service. You can declare it lost online at the same time you make your appointment
