Making SMETS1 smart .... but when?
Options
I've been considering switching gas and electricity suppliers recently but it's always awkward having SMETS1 meters. A few potential suppliers have mentioned that SMETS1 "might" be readable by them "soon" but it's all very vague. I know there was a plan a while back to get all SMETS1 treated the same as SMETS2 (by adding them to an NCC?) but I've not heard anything about this in a while - is it still happening and does anyone know when it will be completed?

It is certainly in progress with a few million SMETS1 meters adopted onto the DCC, but it is anyone's guess when it will be finished...

There is an ongoing programme of enrolling with, and adoption by, The Data Communications Company (the DCC) for all SMETS1 meters. These adoptions are moving forward as we speak but I do not believe that suppliers are required to inform customers of a date or when they process has been completed. What SMETS1 meter do you have?0

I think this answers my questionWhen will SMETS1 meters be connected to DCC?
The original milestones have been delayed and the proposed dates are shown below.
SMETS1 meters will be migrated to DCC in five batches over three capability phases. Once the capability is made ready on the dates below, the migration will happen within the following year.- Initial Operating Capability (IOC) – meters operated by CGI Instant Energy (IE)
- 24 November 2019 to March 2021- Elster Honeywell meters
- 24 November 2019 Q3 2021 - Itron meters
- 23 February 2020 to March 2021 - Aclara meters
- Middle Operating Capability (MOC)
- 15 March 2020 to March 2021 - Elster Honeywell meters currently operated by MDS (Morrison Data Services)
- 28 June 2020 1 November 2020 to July 2021 - Secure meters operated by the Secure Meters group
- Final Operating Capability (FOC)
- 26 July 2020 Q3 2021 - Landis + Gyr (L+G) meters currently operated by either BG SMSO (Smart Meter System Operator), DXC or CGI Instant Energy (IE).
- TBA - if directed by Government, the EDMI meter group.
By 4th March 2021 3,650,115 SMETS1 meters had been migrated to the DCC's systems.
DCC expect the migration programme to complete by the end of 2021.

Edit: You can check whether your SMETS1 meter has been ‘E and A’d by signing up for a N3rgy.com account. Use the ‘I am a consumer’ tab. You will need your MPAN and the number on the bottom of your IHD. If you can retrieve consumption data then your meter is connected to The DCC.
