So I always leave my display showing the cost per month so far , dual fuel on my smart dials to keep a track on what our energy is costing, a couple of weeks ago it reset itself from displaying £40odd for the month so far to £10odd. Just noticed the change the following morning. Tried to reboot it a few times but still displaying the lower incorrect amount for the month. Having a conversation with Eon and they are just fobbing me off, blaming the DCC for the issue and saying they are constantly in touch with them to get a fix rolled out but not sure when that will be. They have told me it will be affecting everyone going forward  as this rollout continues. So effectively my so called smart home display is now useless. Anyone else affected as of yet and if so what have you been told/fobbed off with? tia.

I assume that you are talking about the In House Display which is not your smart meter. When a supplier takes over or installs your ESME (electricity meter) and GSME( gas meter), it has to send out security certificates to both meters. These certificates are part of the GCHQ level security applied to the system and they effectively permit legal communication with your supplier, and prevent meter access for other parties. Once the security certificates are installed, then the supplier can send messages to your meters which includes the appropriate tariff information. The comms hub which sits above your electricity meter then informs your IHD of the correct tariff information.

This is the only reason that I can see for the lack of correct tariff information on your IHD UNLESS there is a problem with your particular model of comms hub. The DCC, and not suppliers, is responsible for all comms hubs.

I should add that my meters are showing the correct tariff information so E.oN’s problem is not as universal as it is suggesting.

    OK to quote Eon

"Thanks for sending in a picture Jeff. I've had a look and can see your meter communication has been enrolled with the DCC (Data Communications Company)recently. I'm not sure if this has caused the incorrect information to display on your smart in home display unit whilst the updates are being done. Not to worry, we're still receiving up to date meter readings which means you will be billed correctly. The in home display should eventually work soon, as the DCC should send a software update."

    and
    "
Hi Jeff, we are aware of the issues with peoples In-home-Displays not showing the correct information. Please be advised that this has been caused by the DCC, the company setting up the national data base for all smart meters and the issue is slowly affecting all smart meter customers across all suppliers in the industry. We are constantly in touch with the DCC to push them to find a fix as quickly as possible. Please be aware that this issue is with the in-home-displays only and will not have any effect on your actual smart meters which are still working correctly. Im sorry this is not what was expected when you had your smart meters installed, as an industry we were unaware that this would occur."

I should add that I have had the smart meters for a few years now, so it's not a new install by any stretch.

I am not sure how E.oN can claim that ‘the issue is slowly affecting all smart meter customers across all suppliers in the industry’. I am with Octopus Energy and I have a Chameleon 6 IHD/CAD. Octopus has its own smart energy forum, and I am not seeing reports of IHD issues. I wish E.oN would be honest. There are a variety of IHDs deployed and the DCC is responsible for none of them.  The DCC is responsible for the comms hub which establishes the Home Area Network which the IHD connects to for data.

And if what eon is telling me is the truth an update to the comms hub has fubar'd the comms to the IHD.I see the DCC is plastered with comments that it is for energy companies only and the general public cannot contact them. If they are to blame they need to get their act together, maybe Martin should do a segment on them to out their tardiness!

Are you talking about a SMETS1 or a SMETS2 meter? What model of IHD do you have? If your meter is registered with the DCC then you can get all your data off the N3rgy.com website. Use the ‘I am a consumer’ tab.

I am not wishing to be rude but I doubt that most journalists have the technical knowledge to know what the DCC does or doesn’t do. Most energy suppliers’ CS staff also struggle to understand how smart metering works.

or you could just change your IHD display to look at kw/h used, which is a more accurate tool seeing as your unit rate is incorrect currently.
