Refused for bank account, credit card removed cifas problems

Hi I'm sorry if this is in the wrong place but I need help. And I'll try and keep it short.
My wife applied for a credit card. As her credit score is perfect she was accepted. She then decided to move her main bank account over to the provider of her credit card. As my local branch of my current bank has closed I decided to do the same. So I made a bank application about 1 week later. I was accepted. I received my new bank card and new account details. Then the next day I got a letter stating there sorry but I haven't been accepted. At this point I've made all the changes to transfer everything from my old account to this one. We went into the branch and questioned this. I was told there was nothing they could do. My wife then received a phone call while in the branch from the bank saying after doing secondary checks they couldn't offer her a credit card or account and these would be removed with immediate effect. She had been using both as it was now 3 weeks after she got her card. After arguing they informed her she should get intouch with cifas. So we did. They had no record on file for my wife. No information at all. But for me they had a fraud alert from caversham finance limited. (Brighthouse). It was a first person fraud stating I had got some items from them and had never paid and that was fraud. Now I got a sofa from them nearly 5 years ago. I made the first payment and then lost my job. I got in touch with them and explained and they got extremely aggressive to me. They then visited my home when I wasn't there, and because I wasn't in they went to my mother's house who was also a customer at the time and threatened her about this sofa. The guy that turned up at my mother's got a surprise when my 2 brothers and myself came out and sent him on his way. In hindsight I should have spoken to him but he threatened my mother. Now to have this fraud removed I need a final response from caversham. But they WONT answer me. I have wrote letter after letter but nothing. This is really confusing for me. I don't understand why they won't respond and I also don't understand why my wife's card and account was also closed. I would add my wife and I haven't got anything linking us financially. Never don't joint credit or banks.

Your post could do with some paragraphing for legibility, but it sounds like you'd have a job on your hands convincing Caversham to cooperate with you if you had a spectacular and semi-violent fallout with them. Was the debt ever settled?
It's unclear how the bank would link you and your wife if there's no financial association at all but have you each reviewed all three of your credit files to see if there's any link shown there? It does seem beyond a coincidence but I don't believe that they should close accounts solely on the basis of a partner's CIFAS status anyway, although ultimately any bank can effectively choose who to deal with at their sole discretion.3 -
Sorry I didn't expect it to be such a long post.
We have looked at three credit files. None have a link between us. All 3 show a perfect credit score.
The debt was never settled. Shortly after the confrontation I received a letter stating that when brighthouse accepted me for the sofa, they hadn't done a affordability check correctly and as such the account was to be closed with no further payment required.
It's not so much getting caversham to co-operate it's the fact that brighthouse and its parent company, caversham finance limited, has since entered into administration. And as such no one will talk to you unless your paying off a valid account.0 -
After 6 years that CIFAS Marker will drop off your file,
As your wife has same surname and and same address as you, have you ever considered that your address Might have a CIFAS marker on it and that's why her accounts got closed. (Not sure if that's a thing so could be wrong)
But if the Finance company is in administration then your gonna have a hard time contacting them, so your best bet is to find out who there administrators are and see if they willing to help,1 -
At the time my wife wasn't my wife, so we didn't have the same name. Also our property is a new build and we are the first people to live in it. There isn't a maker on the property0

CIFAS markers are not linked to addresses but to individuals.
The lady did not have her accounts closed because of her husband’s CIFAS markers as we are told she is not financially linked to her husband. If she hasn’t got a CIFAS herself, and if her own credit files are fine, she should have no problems getting accounts at a different bank / different banking group.
As to why her accounts were closed: we can only speculate, and it doesn’t really matter whether know as it would make no difference. The bank won’t re-open her accounts.2 -
Some CIFAS Markers won't show on credit files so will need to do a DSAR Check....
Bank accounts get closed for a reason and bank's aren't legally allowed to tell you why it got closed. They can say check credit file/CIFAS if they want to,
So before your wife opens another account check CIFAS and do a DSAR Check if all clean then your all good to bank else where.1 -

So all your wife needs to do is bank else where and hopefully that will stay open.
Have you tried contacting the administrators of bright house/finance company to see if the CIFAS Marker/debt can be sorted?
Also try posting in the credit file board people will help you there as well,

Yes I've sent multiple emails and phone calls. I just get automated responses or promises of call backs. The truth is where my account was closed as they hadn't followed procedures, I owe no money to them. Nothing. But the fact that they should have done affordability checks doesn't change the fact that you (allegedly) applied for it fraudulently.crawleyboy01 said:

People get CIFAS markers when they fail to fraudulently apply for credit as well as when they successfully apply for it.0
