dashcam needed but which is best value

Solid-state storage quite simply has a finite life, in terms of number of writes. That applies whether the chips are in a USB card or an enterprise-grade SSD for RAID arrays in server rooms.
That means that, all things considered, it's not the optimal choice for storage for devices that constantly write and rewrite substantial amounts of data. However, the packaging of a dashcam means there's not really any viable choice - "spinning rust" isn't viable, either - so it just has to be accepted as part of the ownership.
The larger the card, the longer you can record before needing to overwrite - but, obviously, the higher the cost of the card.0 -
My dashcams have been in for years and a re still recording just fine. Of course when I have an accident I'll find that that is when they stopped!Tall, dark & handsome. Well two out of three ain't bad.0

My phone doesn't, my blink security camera doesn't.
Maybe some of them offer cloud services for the clips, I'd be fine with that as the uploading of the clips to the cloud could be done while the car is on the drive at night.
If any do, I'll look at them instead of the backward and unreliable Nextbase SD antiques.

A 128GB memory card is probably around £15. And it makes sense for a dashcam for many reasons: allows multiple cards to be used/stored. Allows the card to be removed without the need to remove the whole camera. Allows different drivers to put in their own card in the case of a shared car.0
