Sorry but there is something about your story that doesn't quite add up.

Why would the Travel lodge staff hassle you and call the police if your mate was only smoking outside? Why was there ash on the inside windowsill?

Obviously I was not there so I don't know either way but it sounds like he might have been smoking in the room to me ...
