So we are exchanging this week. Just done a comparison for life cover to have it in place in time. Chose a quote, gave more info and now they wants doctors details. Is this normal? Have not got the time for medical reports.

It will be asked on the application. Not quote.
Depending on how you answer the medical questions, they may go to the GP for more information. Or they may instruct a nurse to visit you and carry out some tests. Being offered terms can range to immediate to having to wait many many months. This is why people are advised to set up their life assurance early in the process and defer the start date until it is needed. Rather than leave it to last minute.

Understandably, completing medical reports is a low priority for most GPs. It can take 1 to 3 weeks for a GP to return a completed report and sometimes longer if a reminder has to be issued. As dunstonh says, you should have applied much earlier rather than leave it to the last minute.0

It's also worth noting that if the GP report has been requested due to medical disclosures made then the premium you have been quoted initially may not be the premium you get offered once an assessment of the doctors report is completed.emmalita said:So we are exchanging this week. Many life insurance providers offer "accidental death benefit" whilst an application is being assessed, so you could be covered by that, although it would depend on how much cover you've applied for and the insurer.0
