1. Yes, it does matter. While the outside diameter of plastic pipe is t standard sizes, the inside diameter varies, so an insert may be loose in one pipe and tight in another.
2. Speed fit is a brand made by John Guest. They do two kinds of inserts, plain (for use with compression fittings) and with an added O ring for use with push fit fittings.
3. The brand is generally marked on the pipe, and you would be best to use inserts of the same brand.
4. Notwithstanding the above, if the insert is a tight fit, it is likely to be OK even if used in a different manufacturers pipe, but no guarantees.1 -
Would bit be ok to use JG inserts with o rings for use on two compression joints as I have a few of them or would it be a good idea and practice to use plain inserts?
Thank you

Never use the Superseal (O ring) inserts with compression fittings. They manufacturer specifically advises against it for a reason, because they will fail over time.GT60 said:Would bit be ok to use JG inserts with o rings for use on two compression joints as I have a few of them or would it be a good idea and practice to use plain inserts?

The Hep2o pipes are preferable to use with compression fittings because they have metal inserts but if you genuinely have speedfit pipes (it should say on the pipe) then stick with their inserts. Also use copper olives rather than brass.1
