My dog, what's he up to?

Schnauzer, he's started to sniff the front of cars, takes a very keen interest, this is below the number plate area and only at the front. He's always been a prodigious sniffer, every lamp post, corner, blade of grass, but this is a new thing.
Any ideas what the fascination is here?

I have a schnauzer too - he does all sort of random weird stuff - just think it is a breed thing lol
