This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about
everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great,
inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old
Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already.
Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check
the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style
natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning

Good morning, it's a grey morning here, probably more rain on the way.I've been missing for a few days, we went away in the caravan for our first jaunt of the year, it was a pretty damp jaunt as well, the rain!! We came back yesterday. Our next planned trip is to Beadnell on the Northumberland coast, in a couple of weeks time - that's dependent on whether we can get one of the taps repaired in the caravan, we discovered it's leaking underneath when the water pump is on. It's something DH can't do himself, handy though he is.Today will just be washing, and putting things away, We'll soon get sorted out. I need a new watch battery as well, so I'll go out down to the outdoor Saturday market (if it's on), there's usually a man who does batteries and new straps, and he's cheaper than the jewellersMaddie, I see you're in Ludlow, it's a lovely place. We've visited 2-3 times when we've holidayed in Shropshire.Hope everyone has as good a day as they can - thinking of our poorly people, Gers and her Mum, Nanny's Mr Fixit, Poppy, Nelski and others.Take care folks14

Morning folks and thanks SCARLET. Welcome back after your soggy jaunt. It's fine at the moment here and forecast to remain so. Hmm we shall see! Yesterday was a day of many showers but at least we were sparred the wind you further south than us suffered.
Usual Saturday morning trip down town on the first bus. If it does stay fine I might get the bus to the next little town along and have a wander of their shops and little outdoor market.
Have a good day folks if you can and ((HUGS)) for all in need of them. Thinking as always of GERS and dm, POPPY, MARIE, NELS and anyone else suffering. Take care one and all xx"If you dream alone it will remain just a dream. But if we all dream together it will become reality"13 -
Morning everyone
Gers - thinking of you and your mum x
Hugs to those that want/need them, those who are poorly and those who are looking after a poorly person x
Happy birthday to those with a birthday x
Cloudy overcast and still blustery start to the day, showers forecast yet again.
DH watching catchup tv, I'm showered, dressed and enjoying a brekkie bar and my first cuppa. DS1 already gone into work. DS2 settled and happy.
Dinner last night was breaded chicken, chips and beans for the menfolk. I had fishcakes and salad. Tonight I'm making Dumplings and Italian Season Chicken - it's a recipe from my ninja cook book - only problem is that all weights/measurements are in cups but lucky I have a set of measuring cups. We've gone down the route of boring same old same old - so I'm trying to find some different things.
Yesterday I did a click and collect shop from one of local discount stores - was easy but not impressed that when they deliver the shopping to your car in the car park there's no hard copy of what you've actually got - so there were some things I ordered that were out of stock but you just get told that - so the bill has been adjusted so I haven't paid for the missing items but at that point I also didn't know how much my bill was. Not sure I'd use that service from that SM again as it did cost £4.99 I just thought it would save time - which realistically it did but then I had to figure out what was missing and did I need to get that for the menu over the next few days. In the past I have used MrT's online shop and that takes some beating they provide you with a hard copy of what you've actually got, what the subs are and a price that you're going to pay - I thought my click and collect would be the same. Lesson learned, it's ok if you're desperate for time but otherwise I'll do my food shop myself in store. I did get done what I wanted to, so had some time to sit and menu plan and try to get some ideas for meals/menus. I also made a batch of lemon cup cakes and a small tray of brownies - but I'm ashamed to say were packet mixes I found in the cupboard but didn't want to throw them away so used them up.
Shortly I'm going to get a newspaper and have a look a couple of new baking tins - mine are so old, and they're rusting in places so need to be thrown away.
Keep safe and well x

Morning all
Thanks for the thread Scarlet and hugs to all those in need.
The tow path is currently a tow puddle, I hope we get some breaks in the rain today as Beano could do with a long walk.
No plans for today apart from cleaning the fridge out and making more bracelets to use up my stash.
Have a good day everyone.
Hugs HesterChin up, Titus out.12 -
Morning All
It's a lovely sunny morning with a bit of a breeze so the washing should dry quite quickly, there's already a towel load out and the bedding will be finished in a few minutes. Housework was done last night with all the windows open so the house has had a good airing. I treated myself to a G&T when I had finished which is probably why I had a really good sleep!
Thinking of Gers and her DM, also Marie, Poppy and Nelski - hope those sausage fingers don't give you too much pain.
Shopping today and a visit to a friend who has a birthday today. I have some courgette and squash plants to put out at the allotment, I have a very mini polytunnel somewhere which may help until the weather warms up a bit. It seems the pen I used for labelling wasn't very good so I'll have to guess which is which.
Great to hear some of you have been away in your caravans, seems like a bit of normality at last even if it did rain!
Happy Saturday, take care. XX13 -
Morning everyone
Just been having a boiled egg and a catch up
Camelot you might be able to give me some advice on how to keep snails off my garden? They totally destroyed some beans I'd planted and I want to keep them off my raspberry and strawberry plants. I tried putting net over them, supported on sticks but now they're just getting stuck on the net.
I have online first aid again this morning. but only 3 hours today so not as bad as last week. I'll try to get my ironing done before it starts - I dried it on the airer overnight. I have other jobs to do and a Tesco shop coming this afternoon.
It sounded as if the house was going to blow away last night - the wind has dropped this morning and the rain has stopped.
Hope everyone has a good day. Gers love to you and your mum11 -
Morning all,Off to watch DGS play his footie match soon, it's still a bit showery but meant to clear later. Its an away match that happens to be quite near DB1 so afterwards I want to drop him some books he wants to borrow, return the large plastic crate of photos that were Mum & Dads, and leave DN birthday card there for her to pick up.This afternoon we have to pick up a sofa we bought on th'ebay- only 9 miles away and looks in a lot better nick than ours - old one to the tip after that! So a busy day ahead!Love to Gers and Mum, and all others who need a kind thought. Thanks for yours yesterday Nanny

What a bad day / night that turned out to be !! the wind was howling almost hurricane like, I took the dogs over the field and met a man we know who was walking his dogs, he said to me not to go through the middle of the field as it has nearly knocked him off his feet !! I stuck to the edge of the field but was very wary of several large trees, I ran when I got to those bits, I dont think we have ever got round that field so quickly and I was glad to get in the house, the wind nearly took my feet from under me several times !
Shopping to collect today Im hoping OH will go for a change, NMLC I think I use the same one you used yesterday, I dont think any supermarket is giving hard copies of the receipt atm due to covid, but they do email you a copy so I always check it on my phone as I am collecting, mind you I cant bear any type of shopping so it suits me.
Not sure whats for dinner but will decide once the shopping is back. House will be given a good clean through and then we will take the dogs out for a good walk.
Thinking of Gers and mum I hope you had a peaceful night xx
Nels good to see you and your sausage fingers
Have good days all xx9 -
Morning all and thank you for starting the thread ScarletRibbons.
It has stopped raining but apparently this is temporary and everything is soaking, I've just been out and pulled up a load of toadstools from the grass, they are now in the compost.
Am longing for a couple of good drying days, I can manage smaller thin gs indoors but prefer to get the bedding and bath towels on the line.
Dinner last night was homemade samosas with salads, samosas are delicious and practically free, though fattening.
Sending loving thoughts to Gers amd her DM.I was jumping to conclusions and one of them jumped back12 -
Morning, hugs if you need one, especially Gers and her Mum.
Horrid morning after a horrid day yesterday, it did not stop tp rain, sun, then torrential rain....ugghhh.
Its quite cool this morning, heat off jumpers on. The gardener came yesterday in between the rain, I need to get another couple of bags of golden gravel to finish off the gully round the grass. The garden is looking good, we have some more plants to go in when we get the chance, the trouble is then the garden will be soaked and the soil very claggy. We just cannot win.
Pink fabric for book pillows came yesterday, so I can at least cut out the bits, waiting for the cotton for the embroidery.
I had a meat pack delivered yesterday, so will not need to buy meat for quite a while, will get the occasional shoulder of lamb joint and possibly mince.
Supper tonight is all day breakfast, will finish off the cheese cake I found in the freezer yesterday for dessert. If it stays fine will pull some more rhubarb for a crumble tomorrow.9
