Halifax sent out replacement card to an old address I never gave them.

in Credit cards
Today I was informed that my new credit card had been sent to an address that Halifax should not even have had on my record as I have never given it to them. Luckily the address is a previous address of mine and my parents still live there. I took out the credit card in 2017 using the address that I have lived at since 2015, I have no other accounts with Halifax and have given them no other address. My online account shows my correct address so I can only assume that they have linked the incorrect account from previous addresses on my credit file (I have not lived at the address that my card was sent to since 2002!). I have not authorised any change in my address and there is no record of me changing my address on Halifax's system. This is a huge data flaw and could could be very financially costly if a credit or banking card was to end up in the wrong hands. My trust in financial institutions plummeted today.

What did they say when you phoned them? Presumably they'll be able to trace how that address came to be in their system.

Although the person I spoke to was as helpful as they could be, he was as shocked as me. He went to speak with his supervisor and then returned to tell me that although the address on my online account was my correct one, the address on my credit card was the incorrect one. Neither him or his supervisor had any idea how that address was on their system. They did ak me if I'd recently comleted a residency tax form (or something to that effect) as that may have caused it. I haven't and do not understand why filling out any form with anyone can affect the address another organisation hold on me.0

Do you have any other Lloyds group accounts? Any of those registered at your old address?
I recently moved home and changing any of the LLoyds group addresses (MBNA, Halifax, Lloyds etc) changes them all.1 -
As it's a previous address it's clearly just an issue with their IT, and as Nebulous2 states, it's likely to be a Lloyds banking group issue as they all share their backend IT and having so many systems duct taped together means that a person at Halifax may not have full knowledge of how all the systems work together and will act shocked and aghast when they see something they can't understand.
