Can I get my deposit back from dentist?

I’m guessing the answer is no but I thought I would check anyway! I have a consultation booked for June with a new dentist and I had to pay £20 deposit to book the appointment. However, I would now like to cancel and go elsewhere. On the phone they told me the deposit was non-refundable. This seems a little unfair as I am cancelling a month in advance. I could understand if I missed the appointment or didn’t give say 72 hours notice. However, I did agree to this at the time I made payment so I guess there’s nothing I can do to get that money back?
thanks

I believe they're able to hold onto a reasonable sum for administrative costs, and £20 is pretty modest.  It might not be worth the hassle.  Was it explained that it was non-refundable before you paid?

You guess correctly, I'm afraid. You agreed to a non-refundable deposit, and it doesn't seem like an unfair amount. You now have the choice of losing the deposit and going elsewhere, or keeping the appointment.

Simple answer is to ask them. If they so no, then fine. If you give them enough notice, they might say Ok...
