Cheadle / Cheadle Heath, Manchester

Hi all,
I'm new here but some of the posts on house buying have been really useful, so thanks.
We've had an offer accepted on a house that's technically in Cheadle but in the residential outer edges (Boundary Road) - sort of almost in Cheadle Heath.
We love the house and the whole experience of buying has thus far gone better than expected. With me not particularly knowing the area, however, I'm just looking if anybody has any first-hand experience of the area, if it is a good place to live and raise a family (we have two kids with my wife expecting another)? We have lived in Macclesfield for the past 7 or 8 years and whilst that has served us well, it would be nice to be closer to my family on the other side of Manchester (Salford).

Anybody with any experience / words of advice or reassurance (or otherwise!) on the area would be greatly appreciated. We've never bought a house before and the house is perfect so we intend to be there for many years, if all goes to plan. Just looking to learn more about the place.

Thanks

Surely the time to think about this was before putting in an offer?

    A fair point, Slithery!
To be honest I think I am perfectly happy with the area, although I don't know a great deal about it. I was just researching and this forum often pops up as providing the most insightful contributions. So I thought I would ask specifically what I wanted to know, see what happened. If a great number of people chipped in and said 'NO, DO NOT GO THERE' then it would give food for thought, otherwise I'm just looking for insight on the area, schools, local issues etc. If that is to no avail then so be it. I hope that's ok by you.

It's not a dodgy area, it's standard residential fare. Stockport has plenty to offer, it's a good option.

My son lives in Cheadle..lovely area with some great schools (not all)
  • Cheadle is a nice area. Cheadle Heath less so, but still fine. I think generally the closer you get towards Stockport town centre it gets a little worse. Brezo Lounge on Cheadle high street is a great place for brunch and there is an 'artisan' market on the first Saturday of every month on the area of greenery at the junction with Manchester Road which is nice to visit. Bruntwood Park is a great place to take kids. John Lewis is just round the corner if you want to decorate your house like Theresa May. Parrs Wood Cinema and Bowling complex is only a 2 minute drive away too.
