Court papers served at a previous address
Hi I am looking for some advice over court papers being sent to a previous address. In short when we moved February 2020 we informed our electricity supplier of our final read and our new address by phone. I emailed a photo of the meter along with our old and new address details on the same day that I spoke to them.
They could not at that time provide suppy at the new address as they did not deal with smart meters, they were one of the five that Ofgen draged over the coals for not signing up to the common smart meter system.
We have not been able to log into the online account for over a year and despite numerous email and telephone calls over the final bill they never respond. I have had no contact from them regarding the unpaid bill in all that time apart from promises they will reply but dont.
On Monday this week I recevied an email from the court service with the papers attached but the address in them is for the old address. I had a royal mail redirection in place till February this year and never received any mail from them.
Would these papers be deemed as correctly served by sending to the old address but the courts sending a copy by email.
The money is due no question so my question is how do I deal with the court papers? I have until the 7th of June to respond to the court papers.
Thanks in advance for any advance.

Hi and thanks for your response. They never actually sent a final bill and stopped account access within a few days of moving. I contacted them by email and telephone to be informed someone would call me back. They also cancelled the direct debit and as I cannot access my account online I have not seen a final bill nor can I pay through the account the balance oustanding as it returns there is an error.
As I previously said I owe the money and am willing to pay, but I have only received court papers sent to the previous address and never a bill. I have sent numerous emails and phoned monthly over the past 15 months to no avail.
So in reply to your response, yes pay the bill but how do I pay this never seen bill and bear in mind I have been wanting to pay it for the past 15 months.
Regards
Sean

Have you actually made a written complaint, so that you can go to the ombudsman?
Have you called them since receiving these court papers to ask them whats going on?
Surely if court papers have been submitted then they would have produced a final bill. So they should be able to give it to you now.
Otherwise you need to contact the ombudsman and submit all your evidence and see if they can help. You need to ask the supplier in question to provide you with a deadlock letter if they aren't sorting this, so you can go to the ombudsman asap (otherwise you need to wait 6-8 weeks)
Who is the company in question?0 -
Have they added court costs?Have the energy company taken court action or is it a Debt Collection Agency0
