Wife's CC charge refund

Options
My wife recieved a letter from Barclays this morning about a £2k refund but it has been applied to her outstanding balance. Is this right or should she have been given the option for a refund to her bank account, is Barclays under obligation to atleast offer her the option?
In my mind if its money she's already paid out of her personal account for these charges shouldn't they go back to her account?
Thanks
Brad

It's fine for them to offset it against the debt.
  • If your wife owes them money i.e. a credit card debt then yes they can offset any refund against the outstanding. This is also a good idea as it reduces the balance she owes which means less interest and faster to clear the debt.
