I have just installed a wind up door bell as I was fed up with wireless ones. No wiring, just drill a small hole and screw the bell and push button into place. really loud and reliable.
Can you explain the connection between the bell push and the bell, and what the 'wind up' aspect is. If it's not wireless I presume the wire from the bell push just goes through the door direct to the bell. That wouldn't work for me as the bell push is outside our porch and we wouldn't hear a bell ring in the porch.

I see. So the bell bit is mounted on the opposite side of the door from the button? And so they are directly connected?
If so, this wouldn't quite work for me because my front door is in a closed off hallway and the bell needs to be the other side of the hallway to be heard properly. Good idea though!
