Is it manual or automatic? On an automatic, you may get a warning of the transmission fluid level being too high, but rare you would get anything other than that.

We were asking if there even is a warning light for the gearbox oil level.
You may have been expecting a warning light that simply doesn't exist.
With regard to having to pay for the repair yourself, you'll get the work done cheaper than the main dealer £6500.00
A used gearbox won't be that expensive and any decent garage should be able to so it.0 -

This wasn't a manufacturing fault though, it happened because you chose to drive it knowing it had a leak. The fault lies with you.
FYI, the ZF 8/9 speed gearboxes are a mainstay of BMW and many manufacturers and one of the best auto boxes out there.0 -

Interestingly ZF the company that make the gearbox had to recall 500,000 vehicles because of manufacturing faults.
The big 2016 recall (before your car was built) related to wiring connections, not to oil leaks. There's subsequently been a recall over faulty clutch packs, but that relates to cars build in 2014. Your car has not been recalled by JLR for any transmission issues, nor do ZF appear to have done any recalls at all relating to oil leaks. Even if they had, the advice would have been to take it to the dealer to check for leaks and - if found - not to continue to drive.0 -

9HP is for traverse engines only. Not used in BMW's as far as I know.
Not always easy to swap the boxes over as the TCU probably needs flashing to the car as well0 -

used ones on ebay breakers from £700-£900
So even if it's a very long job, around £2000 total should cover it?
That's the gearbox, plus other parts (gaskets/oil) and labour.1 -

Looking on ebay, breakers are asking around £400 to £700 for a used box, depending on year/mileage.
A 'good' thing about the Evoque being popular is there's loads get crashed and spares are plentiful.0
