Car insurance
I phoned up a car insurance broker and bought a car insurance for my son who is 33 years old and an experienced driver. He has poor internet connection where he lives and so I did it all for him. I was told it would be cheaper to add his wife, (who has her own car) and to also add me, (64 years old, I have my own car, and I live at a different address) , but they insisted it would be cheaper if both of us to be added. This can't be right? Were they trying it on?

If his internet connection's poor, why didn't he phone...?
Did you put the details into an internet comparison site? What did it give for quotes with and without you as named drivers?0 -
Hi Forgot to add that they also said the reasons for the above are because he is classed as a young driver. I said no he's not he's 33! Made no difference.
Adrian: poor internet connection and no mobile signal. No landline (rented flat)0 -
Insured and Spouse policies are typically cheaper. Adding an additional named driver given the ages seems less likely to make a material difference but the broker should have been able to give you the prices with or without the NDs
As to why, mass market insurance like this is all priced based on statistics... stats show lower claim exposure (frequency x cost) then prices are lower (at least from a technical premium perspective). If you want to try and work out why that may be the case feel free but insurers typically dont. I guess there could be an element of him being more of a family man if its a family car rather than a boy racer trying to impress etc if the Mrs isnt allowed to drive it... again, just working on averages.
A little odd that you are doing because of his bad internet and yet you are using the phone and not the internet.0 -
They should not even be talking to you about his policy in the first place.Blasie said:Hi Forgot to add that they also said the reasons for the above are because he is classed as a young driver. I said no he's not he's 33! Made no difference.

Not understanding your question ? Or its relevance?
Why is it odd that I am phoning? My internet is good as is my mobile connection.0
