Selling has pulled out of house sale not once but twice

The seller I am buying a house off pulled out of the sale and they told all parties involved the sale was off. A few days later they called me to tell me that they have made mistake and would like to go ahead, so then we had to speak to our solicitor to see if we could still go ahead (at this point they agreed we could continue with the mortgage application) PHEW!! However now a couple of months later whilst waiting for land registry documents they have told us it is taking to long and they need to do a buy to let mortgage and we can rent the property from them instead if we want??? This was never our plan! I feel messed about and emotionally abused and hurt and I am not sure if we have any legal rights at all. Could someone please give me some advice.

I am afraid there is little you can do. The system is dreadful. They can pull out at any point before contracts are signed.
Tell them in no uncertain terms you are only interested in a purchase. Get a timeline from you solicitor - tell them you are moving as quickly as possible - but if they are not prepared to wait you will move on to another purchase and leave them to it.
These people sound irrational and flighty. I am sorry they have wasted your time.4 -
You have no rights.
Pull out of the purchase, find one where the seller isn't being daft.Mortgage started 2020, aiming to clear 31/12/2029.4 -
Fool me once shame on you, fool me twice shame on me! Walk away and buy a different house, this will be full of issues throughout. See this as a blessing in disguise. Good luck.1

Can only offer my sympathies, the vendor sounds like a complete nightmare. It is hard because you have wasted time and money on this property. The seller have proved themselves to be unreliable so TBH it may be best to cut your losses now and move on.2

I really feel for you, a few weeks ago the vendor of the property I wanted to buy pulled out twice in a week - luckily before I'd spent any money but its awful on the emotions. The second time I walked away, there were red flags like they insisted in being there for the viewing and giving weird looks, the house had also been for sale recently with two different agents making me think they'd done this multiple times before. If possible I would pull out and look for something else as it does not bode well.0

BUT we found a house much better suited to our needs, whose vendor had similarly been let down by their purchasers.
We've been here nearly 4 months and although I can't help wondering 'what if we'd bought XX', I'm really enjoying putting our stamp on this one.
I'm sure you will find somewhere you love just as much, if not more. Good luck.0
