Good morning diary. Happy weekend to anyone who may be reading.
So let us start with the good news of the week - I COMPLETED. I AM AN OFFICIAL HOUSE OWNER.
Weirdly. I am not as excited as I feel I should be - or that others seem to be for me. I guess it is because I feel so behind in life and that instead of being happy in the now, I am already racing ahead with thoughts about how on earth I am going to get to the point that I can retire at 60 without a mortgage - and also enough to money to live on. I cannot begin to imagine what it feels like to wake up each day knowing you do not HAVE to go back to the rat race of work (unless you want to).
So completion was pretty easy. I collected the keys and went to ensure the property was fully secure. I wont be moving in properly for a few days but plan to start moving things across. I have already notified my utilities and council tax etc of the impending address change. Just bank and work changes to do now, which seems OK and not a stressful thing to still contend with. Official move date is all systems go for my work and also the removals team - I seem to have never ending amounts to take to the tip and I have been restricted to weekly tip runs because of the restrictions in place... I could have done with a couple of days of continuous tip trips to be honest
Not much more to update at this stage, other than I am going to put up my curtain poles and roller blinds this weekend (yes, I purchased a drill) - also off to dun*elm to purchase some lounge curtains
Oh BIG news..... I got a £440 tax rebate this week. So all the blinds and curtain poles/ curtains so far will be paid for with this. I was expecting the rebate, but not until October so this has been wonderful. And also, my solicitors closing statement fee was a fair amount less than I was expecting overall - I don't think I kept up with what I paid and where in relation to the overall balance, so that was some more good news1 -
Congratulations!
Hope it's a happy home.

Wowwww curtain poles (what I wanted) and new beds (ottoman, I need the storage) and mattresses are expensiveeeee!!!!!
I need to sort out the washer/dryer order today... going to remeasure again to be sure before ordering. - I also need to go to another Dun*elm for another curtain pole, as I couldn't get enough of the same yesterday. - I need a new kettle and some basic stocks for the house such as toilet rolls and handsoap to cover this week before everything is moved over. - My poor savings account..! I have a number in mind which I wont be going below in relation to transferring money - I know it is important to keep an emergency fund, so purchases after my washing machine will certainly have to be very mindful!!!
Looking forward to seeing my poles, blinds and curtains go up today2 -
Congratulations on your new home CM1

I'm looking forward to following your progress and seeing your SOA - always interesting to see how people in a similar position are getting on. Enjoy your new home and cut yourself a bit of slack while you get the essentials and nest a bit. Buying a home solo is a big achievement.- just wish I could go back and tell my younger self to consider certain things.... for a very long time I didn't really consider the long term, but here we are, onwards!
Yes, I am certainly nesting. I still have the garden to think about as I need some patio for a shed and area for the wheelie bins... something tells me that isn't going to be cheap- the main thing is I am now at this point and although the mortgage seems a mountain, it is something that will be an investment over time opposed to dead money in rent.
SOA will be arriving in due course. I just need to get my utilities in order and know what I will be paying, it may take a month or so to get all of that information as I still need to swap my gas/electric/ hear from the council re: council tax. It is never ending
Here is to a busy work and official removals week ... new beginnings
