Change of name - HMRC and DWP
[Deleted User]

Just planning ahead, but I'm wanting to change my name by deed poll.
How easy is it to do with HMRC and DWP?
I note from the information I read online HMRC ask you to do this through the gateway service, but ive never been able to use it because I don't have a passport and when I tried to register it wouldn't let me.
Any advice?

You can register if you have a recent payslip or P60

I don’t. I don’t think. Which means they dictate you need a passport otherwise. Maybe it’s just easier to renew it.sheramber said:You can register if you have a recent payslip or P60

Information I post is for England unless otherwise stated. Some rules may be different in other parts of UK.0

I actually found a P60, But when I go through the motions and it comes to the bit where it asks to prove my identify, its lists three options only: 1. Passport 2. Credit Reference Agency Info. 3. Northern Ireland Driving License.sheramber said:You can register if you have a recent payslip or P60

There is no option to use P60 and you have to choose 2.
The passport option would of been ok, but it means renewing and then paying again to change my name on it.
Thats the page I wanted, so thanks for that, this is the way I would have to do the change of name, to save money and hassle.calcotti said:0 -

you can telephone HMRC and they will simply update your name.
bur for DWP,you need to write to them and send a copy of your deed poll.

Yeah I’ve done a lot of research into it. As some organisations only accept enrolled deed polls, so I was making sure who I would need to inform and what they requested as evidence.0
